Abigail Williams

The American symphonic black metal band Abigail Williams was founded in 2005, in Phoenix, Arizona, and borrowed its name from an infamous girl accuser who was partially responsible for the Salem Witch Trials. Ironically, the group's early history was checkered with similar (if far less deadly) acts of "treason" as more than a dozen musicians sifted through their ranks, making vocalist/guitarist Ken Sorceron the only mainstay. In fact, Abigail Williams even broke up for a spell after recording 2006's metalcore-inflected Legend EP, but was resurrected the following year, relocated to New York, and signed to Candlelight Records for the release of 2008's debut album, In the Shadow of a Thousand Suns. This set the group's course on the road to black metal and led to a sophomore opus, 2010's In The Absence Of Light, which featured the lineup of Sorceron, guitarist Ian Jekelis, and drummer Ken Bedene. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi

Bad A**!!!!!!! These guys are great. \m/ \m/ HORNS UP!!!!!!!!
F**king sweet :) me like
Like carrion birds is one of my all-time favorite songs.
The most rock & metal stations on Pandora Radio!
Nice
I heard these guys on a free disk I got from metal hammer . But I always forgot who they were or to pick them up . I didn't know they were from Phoenix either . Glad to find them on pandora
Sorceron took AW to the ground in my opinion. The new music being produced by AW now isn't anywhere near what Legend was. Legend was something unbelievable . It was a thing of beauty. All the songs were beautifully written with such grace. These days, AW doesn't appeal to me. I listen to Legend and In the Shadow of a Thousand Suns now.
amazing<3 proud witch right here!
everything about the song Like Carrion Birds embodies metal. fantastic song.
new album please
This music gives me so much energy, when turned up loud! I can ride my bicycle so much further and faster now, while listening to it!
F**k this band is good, almost too good to be an American band. But they are, so holy s**t.
They are simply flawless(:
after straying from my musical roots, sickened by CoF and some of the other "Mainstream" BM bands, this band brought me back and opened my eyes to the new era of Black Metal.
zulelwow8
ya the're from phoenix arizona, i lived there for a few years
black metal is dance club massacre. this s**ts good too no joke, but damn.
This is from the US?! Jesus Harold Christ they rip some black metal cornholes wide open!
nailayseven
? The vocals are f**king awsome whats all this talk about them not being good. There 100% black metal.
In The Absence of Light is really solid but slightly disappointin g compared to In The Shadow of A Thousand Suns.
Vox sound like Neaerea a bit, they aren't bad but not what I want on my Isis channel.
The vocals are really cool, it adds to the whole necro-sound. But then most black metal has those kinds of vocals so whatever.
@Malevolant Cannibal: I actually don't mind the vocals that much as I've heard much worse from Norwegan bands like Gorgoroth. I go by how intelligible the lyrics are for the most part.

If you like abigail, check out my band, Forever Mourning. You will not be dissapointed .
That would make a lot of sense, Plague. I was pleasantly surprised at how good these guys are.
They're a lot more aggressive and technical than a lot of the second wave Norwegian crap. I guess they have some deathcore and death metal influence, which adds to it.

(And I say "crap" affectionate l y . )
Every time I hear this band, I'm surprised at how much I like them. I mean, they are an extremely good black metal band, even better than some of the bands from the Great Dark North even. They make it onto my top 15 black metal bands.
I just picked up In the Shadow of a Thousand Suns today, and Abigail Williams may have just beaten out Limbonic Art's place as my favorite black metal band.
Yeah, I'm with Punk Guy. If you know where to look, America is capable of producing pretty good black metal.

The Funeral Pyre, for instance. L.A. based, but they sound pretty much just like Old Man's Child with higher pitched vocals.
Yeah, I think it's nice that my long held opinion of there not being any good black metal in America is being overturned. Jesus Elicoor, chill out. Although that is a nice jab there about MCR, can I borrow that?
Elicoor seems to have a case of the "terrible two's". Punk guy was just giving and honest opinion. One that I share and is backed up by critics everywhere.

"The Phoenix, AZ-based Abigail Williams" "is a perfect example of an American (band) with a very Nordic-influ e n c e d sound." "('In The Shadow Of A Thousand Suns' is) a respectable outing and shows how enjoyably well American black metallers can emulate their European counterparts when they put their minds to it."-AMG Alex Henderson
You can go suck a dick Punk Guy. No one wants to hear your bullshit. They don't sound like they are from Norway. Go f**k off back to My Corprophilia c Romance and F*g Religion.
A pretty good American Black metal Band, they sound like they could be from Finland or Norway. Pretty good stuff.
give em a break, just about the base of the cranium should do.
I dated an Abigail Miller. She blew just as hard as this band
@Dirty North: It's all about atmosphere.
Repetative riffs and screams that need translation. I do not see what all the rage is on the black metal scene.
Some of these American metal bands that are totally unknown are really good.
Love how these guys can combine Black Dahlia Murder style vocals with heavier Children Of Bodom instrumental s . . Awesomenesss s s s s s
Wow...
Best name for a metal band... EVER!! lol...
who cares wat kinda f****** metal it is..its f****** metal d***.haha they rock
satsui
The new album (In the Shadow of a Thousand Suns) is not blackcore at all, in fact it's defined more as symphonic black metal. It's really good. First time I heard this band I had an orgasm and the new album gave me 2 lol.
lol, well technically Marduk may have beaten them to it as they are called "Norsecore" for adding heavy grindcore elements to their music, but these guys are something else altogether. It just f**king works!

If you like these guys you should check out Martriden and Dawn of Relic.
Shadochief! You're right! Blackcore is what they are. My friend calls them satancore haha. I love this though. The vocals and guitars are sick.
Symphonic Black Metal fused with metalcore?

Blackcore? I think we may have a new genre.
amazing band.
amazing drums.
amazing everything.
just simply amazing.
