Back in Salt Lake City, Acroma used to be known as No Release. In those dark days of the late '90s and early 2000s, vocalist Jeremy Stanley, guitarist Brian Christensen, bassist Tom Collins, and drummer Joshua Zirbel were slogging it out in a city not known for producing post-grunge heroes (the Used aside). Nevertheless, the quartet was able to build a solid local following, and had soon issued a three-song demo/EP. In 2002, a track on an unsigned band compilation caught the ear of Republic/Universal, and the label signed No Release to a deal. Re-emerging as Acroma, the band hooked up with Tool producer Sylvia Massy, who helmed their debut from the comfort of her Northern California ranch. Label shenanigans delayed the release of Orbitals for over a year, but the LP finally dropped in May 2003. ~ Johnny Loftus, Rovi
I'm starting to dig this band from Salt Lake City Acroma i think they've got a good chance at the big time

Heard this from the other room and had to come read about Perfect Circle's new release. Far from disappointed, this is cool stuff, and I don't care who it sounds like! Thanks Pandora for something new (to me).
Herb, your comment below... Badfinger?? Wow, that's a blast from the past! Raise your hand if you saw them live... uh oh, now I'm dating myself.
than Tool themselves can justifiably replicate. In fact, I wish there were more bands out there that actually live up to the comparison to Tool, cause it's pushing 7 years now since we've heard anything from them, and I need a fix BAD!
Unless every musician within the same band never listened to any music in the category, or related category, of which they're placed, they're not completely original. Therefore, no band is completely 100% original, that's why they call it influence. However, there's a rare select group of artists who are exclusive to setting musical trends as close to an original sound as a band can be, such can be said of Tool. Tool is an unduplicated original in every respect a band can be, that no band other
Chevelle is labeled as sounding like Tool of which I find absurd. Earshot has one song that has a distinct part within it that sounds like Tool, but that's the extent. I swear, the minute a critic hears a song that has any prog-metal sound to it, they deem it as Tool. News flash, just because a band finds themselves slotted into the same genre as another, does not make them the same. All music is derivative of another. Unless every musician within the same band never listened to any music in the
One release? Seriously?? What happened guys? Look, the Tool influence is obvious here, that's not a bad thing by any measure. In fact, with all the bands out there that the media and critics have wrongly compared to Tool over the years, it's quite refreshing to actually have a band that lives up to that comparison. That's not to say they are a clone or rip off of Tool, they're just accurately placed in the extremely limited genre Tool sets the stage for. Chevelle is labeled as sounding like Tool

Love this album. Tool/APC fan here and while there are similarities, it does have its own souund and is not a Tool replica. Much softer around the edges and the transitions are not as harsh. Vocals are more present than Maynard's. I wish they would release another freaking album. I'd buy it.
Great song--does remind me of Tool (which is not a bad thing at all!). I found the CD after hearing this song--really very good, although the song "Orbitals" is the best. But there's not a weak track on the CD--highly recommended for fans of the Tool sound!

First thing I thought of when I heard this band was Hourglass, another Utah progressive metal/rock band. Nice surprise here.

Love EVERY song! Wish they were still producing...
There was a band out of Rusten, Louisiana caleld Rigid that sounds a LOT like this. They seem more like APC then tool. Tool tends to be more theatrical with their musical notations. Not bad at all but like Paul Reeves said, most likely going to stay a pandora band.

Reminds me of A Perfect Circle more than Tool. Good album!
accurate. you'll only hear these guys on Pandora. Derivative bands like this never go very far.
gravitywave
is it accurate or cruel to call these guys a Tool rip-off? you can justify the overall sound with the producer, but the vocalist certainly sounds like maynard.
Great sound, and as Matt stated, a cross between Tool and A Perfect Circle. Also similar to Porcupine Tree, IMHO. Get's better with every listening.

Clean sound. A lot of similar off-beat riffs and minor chords that are reminiscent of Tool or A Perfect Circle. It made sense to read that Sylvia Massy had her hands in this. Its cool to see that something from Salt Lake City can actually sound awesome!
dig the driving rift, and groove based melodies! nice to hear good music again can see the tool influence as well but not tool by any means defiantly have their own sound - peace
Remember how people used to think that Badfinger was a Beatles side project? Acroma completely sounds like a Tool side project, which is a delightful discovery. Now if I could only find another band that sounds like Porcupine Tree...
Tool/A Perfect Circle is my favorite band of all time, no question about it. With that said I really like this band, I think they have some great songs. Whether they have similarities to tool or not I give them the thumbs up everytime. Great music.
-To all my fellow tool fans, don't compare other bands to tool. You'll never find anything like them. Remember, imitation is the greatest form of flattery. If Acroma and Earshot are trying to sound like tool that means they have a lot of respect for
them. I have no clue whether this is the case or not. They may just have similarities by chance, not choice. You never know, I just think these guys(Acroma and Earshot) deserve some credit for making really cool music.
Yeah these guys and Earshot sound so much like a watered down TOOL its hillarious. I don't mind hearing remnants of an influence but when you sound like a carbon copy its unexceptable. Warning to all up and coming bands'FIND YOUR OWN SOUND' otherwise you come off as fake and unimpressive.
