German funeral doom trio Ahab were founded in the town of Esslingen by Midnattsol and Penetralia musicians Daniel Droste (vocals, guitars, keyboards) and Christian Hector (guitar), alongside Endzeit member Stephan Adolph (bass, background vocals). Taking inspiration from Herman Melville's classic tale of a great white whale and the infatuated ship's captain who pursued it, Ahab first tested their creation in the shallow waters of a 2004 single entitled "The Stream" and 2005 demo named The Oath, before diving into the deep end with their 2006 album, The Call of the Wretched Sea, featuring session drummer Corny Althammer. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi
Oh. I didn't know that. Ya, I feel like an idiot now for not liking the vocals. I just wasn't into the really guttural growling stuff back then. But even back then I recognized the amazingness of the Instrumental part of this band.
and i'm sorry but i don't hear Nile... why didn't they say something like Mourning Beloveth, or Swallow The Sun? i think most of the bands they've lumped in there are too fast to really work with a doom band...
