Alvin Lee

As with many of the other English beat groups of the '60s, Alvin Lee cut his musical teeth in Hamburg, Germany in a band called the Jaybirds. By 1966, back in England, he had changed the name of his band to Ten Years After and was rapidly becoming a major attraction because of the virtuosity of his solo work. Most Americans first became familiar with Lee through his appearance at Woodstock, although he remained active throughout the decades that followed; among his releases were 1974's In Flight, 1986's Detroit Diesel, and 1996's Live in Vienna. Alvin Lee died on March 6, 2013 due to complications from a routine surgical procedure. ~ All Music Guide

Alvin is the quintessenti a l frontman guitarist. Just also happens that hes one of the best players and vocalist out there. I can't imagine any other vocals otterther then Alvin for the music he plays and writes. Rockabilly , Rock, Blues ,Jazz and he could get psychedelic just for fun. Saw him twice in small venues. I don't get better then that. I listen to Alvin Lee everydaym

Can anyone direct me to Alvin's movements in his last 20 years of life? Unfortunatel y , I lost touch with Alvin's whereabouts. I saw him for the first time in Milwaukee when I was 10,- 1970. I got to tag along with my big brother and his friends-that was cool. The last time was in a arm field in Green Bay when I was 17,-1977. I am just discovering all of his latest work. He is still 30% of the music I listen to every day.

I saw Mylon perform in 1978 at Western State College in Gunnison, Co when I was a freshman. It was a small show. I had heard his album with Alvin. I got to talk to Mylon for a few minutes, but all I could ask him about was Alvin.

A friend and I caught the Spirit of New Orleans train to hear him in LaPlace LA in 1970. Camped out, caught a ride with sheriff to The Warehouse - totally mesmerized by 10 years after - aware of people pointing at me - Hitched home- That's only half of story about our trip - God, what a guitarist and what a roadtrip! If you can relate; slacy2014@gm a i l . c o m .

After all these years...and a lot more than 10, I still remember when I saw him in the Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon.... think it was around 74? Blew me away with his ability to rock his guitar, rocked the whole house that night, been a favorite ever since. I didn't know that he passed. RIP Alvin Lee, when you're not jamming the spirit world!

Alvin was a great guitarist and song writer all the way up until his passing. I couldn't wait for his next CD's. He played in so many different styles, rock, blues, boogie and oldies to name a few. Recommend picking up Sagiitar, awesome Alvin CD

FYI avoid Last Show cd, but DO buy the remastered Recorded Live, & Positive Vibrations. Make sure you get the new ones with all of the bonus tracks.

I got to see Alvin Lee in a small bar in San Diego about 12 years ago- it was like having one of the greatest guitarists of all time play for you personally in your living room. We were right by the stage and he was incredible. I was going to name my first son after him, but I just couldn't have a kid go through life with the name Alvin! He's jammin' w/ Jimi, Stevie and all the rest that have gone before us to the great gig in the sky

You are right Phillip! I will too. I had the honor of working for Alvin in 1974 for one concert in Germany ( had the option of going on tour with them. The Army wouldn't have liked it much however!)

Cheesy little bio. Alvin Lee in three sentences. Maybe they'll be nicer now that he's not around to appreciate it.

Saw him many times. One of the greats; a guitar virtuoso. What a void without him being among us. Big Red will miss him, as will I. Thanks for the Rockin and Rollin, Alvin. Peace be with you. rwh, jd---------- > > > > . . . . .
