As with many of the other English beat groups of the '60s, Alvin Lee cut his musical teeth in Hamburg, Germany in a band called the Jaybirds. By 1966, back in England, he had changed the name of his band to Ten Years After and was rapidly becoming a major attraction because of the virtuosity of his solo work. Most Americans first became familiar with Alvin Lee through his appearance at Woodstock, although he remained active throughout the decades which followed; among his releases were 1974's In Flight, 1986's Detroit Diesel, and 1996's Live in Vienna. ~ All Music Guide, Rovi
can't get the local station to play anything but 'I'd love to change the world what the world needs is more positive vibrations. I was first introduced to him in 71, listened to i'm going home the woodstock version almost every day on my way home for school. the local d.j. plays snipits to close out his morning show but won't play it otherwise, what a d&^%$.
From Kalamazoo Michigan and mom worked at Gibson Guitar until 1984 when they moved to Nashville TN. My Mom worked in quality controle and finger board inspection. "If it wasn't right, it didn't ship out of Kalamazoo!"
If you notice, Mr. Lee playes only Gibson 335G git box, pre 1984. Rock&Roll never sounded better on this type of guitar. His "Pure Blues Album is one of my fav. ROCK ON !
One of my all time favorites. Back in the high school years we use to all hang out in a garage, shoot pool and listen to TYA. Then I got to see Alvin (mr. lightning fingers) and TYA in 1974 at the Cow Palace. He walked on stage carrying a watermelon. Sat it down, put his foot up on it and started whaling on his guitar! COOL STUFF!
Fantastic - 50+ living and all the old memories, only better! It grounds me in the solidity of blues and how comforting the music is . I love this artis long with Van Morrison, and others. Losing track of who my favorite is...as I zone out with the lovely melodies floating across te airwaves....
First time I have heard him. Love this kind of music - He is great. Wonder why I never heard of him before. More, please.

I have watched Woodstock 100 times or more and TYAs performance is the best. Everyone pulls for Hendrix (and why not, he's a legend), but Goin' Home live on stage was unbelievable. I saw TYA in 1972 in Portland and it was a great show. They were great live. Sad they are split, but that's the way the blues go.
Alvin Lee is a great guitarist.Too bad he is no longer with TYA.They set Woodstock on fire.Ive enjoyed TEN YEARS AFTER a lot before and after the concert.
