After the overwhelming success of "Cannonball" and Last Splash took the Breeders by surprise -- and led to their quick burnout -- singer/songwriter/guitarist Kim Deal formed the Amps in 1994 as a way to release new material while the Breeders took a break. With her other group's drummer Jim MacPherson, Deal assembled a new band from members of other bands around her hometown of Dayton, OH, including Nathan Farley and Luis Lerma of the Tasties. Originally called Tammy & the Amps, the band sounded like a rougher, rawer version of the Breeder's skewed pop. The Tipp City EP heralded Pacer, their first and only album, which was released in late 1995. That year, the Amps toured with friends and like-minded acts such as Helium and Sonic Youth. The following year, Deal folded the Amps lineup into a new version of the Breeders -- which also included Pod-era member Carrie Bradley -- for a handful of California dates with Primus. As the Breeders' notoriously unstable lineup changed, all of the former Amps left the group within two years. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi
If I remember correctly, I had this on vinyl. I remember the shrink rap on it. CD's were just getting popular in 1995. It's a great album on any format.
kim deal rocks. her voice is incredible. and hole's only good album was "Live Through This" which is awesomely good if you really like early grunge. but for better bands, it's a tie between The Breeders and Pixies. it depends on my mood personally. when i'm feeling girl power-ish i definitely blare the Breeders.
yes, this album is so smooth. holds up to repeated listening from song 1 to the last. kim is amazing with lyrics, she has the sunniest effortless voice, i think it has something to do with singing throat open, no affectation or chord strain and excellent mouthing, enunciation. i like courtney love, hole's early stuff, how freakin messed up those lyrical stories are, abuse, just f**ked up stuff, the interpersonal politics. people will always argue about her, slag murderess, or strong feminist
This is one of my favorite albums. I have to disagree w/the Courtney Love comment below. I think Kim Deal is a great songwriter and artist. C. Love is more of a media whore/"entertainer". I think she also gets a lot of help writing material. Kim Deal could probably bash out an album in a basement within a week or two. Anyway, get this album if you like the Breeders even a little.
EXCELLENT ALBUM suprised there are so little comments for one of the best albums of the 90's Ms. Deal and crew put out truly original rock.
One of the best.

As for Courtney Love, you've gotta admit the "Live Through This" album has some strong songwriting and she did the vocals quite well.
One of the best.
