Angra

Angra was formed in 1991, picking up where Viper had left off playing neo-classical progressive metal. Singer Andre Matos left Viper after the Theatre of Fate album due to creative differences. Andre soon hooked up with guitarist Kiko Loureiro to form Angra; they were joined by bassist Luis Mariutti, guitarist Rafael Bittencourt, and drummer Marco Antunes. After a demo entitled Reaching Horizons, Antunes was replaced on drums by Ricardo Confessori. This completed the lineup for their first full-length album, Angels Cry, which met with critical and commercial success in Brazil and Europe. It was mostly a hard progressive metal set, slowing down only for a remake of Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights." Two years later, in 1995, Angra recorded their second album, entitled Holy Land. While maintaining the same core sound as Angels Cry, Angra showed subtle Brazilian influences much more on Holy Land in the rhythms and backing vocals. Two EPs, Holy Live and Freedom Call, appeared between 1996 and 1997. The next album, Fireworks, released in 1998, is a more straight forward hard rock album. The classical influences from Angels Cry and the Brazilian influences from Holy Land are both gone, being replaced by straight forward metal. In 2001 longtime vocalist Andre Matos left the group and was replaced by Edu Falaschi. The resulting album, the prog/neo-classical metal Rebirth, was a return to form for the group. They followed that record's success with Temple of Shadows in 2005. ~ David White, Rovi

The best and most influential Brazilian metal band is Sepultura.

Andre matos!!!!!
Words cannot describe how much I love all these power metal bands. Excellent morals combined with metal instruments. . . I have no words with which to pay proper tribute to this concept.
Ummm WOW! I love this! Thanks Pandora for the introduction to what seems to be and amazing beautiful technical progressive metal deemed for all Wow so badass \m/
the album name is Angels Cry / Holy land, Angels Cry, not City
Angra is the s**t
Current Anagram rocks tho Rebirth wasn't their best Cd. They need less ballads and more fast ones like Nova Era n Running Alone. Check out bands Axenstar, Avantasia, and Theocracy
Yes! A band i can get into, since Kahn left kamelot finding a back up band has been.....lam e !
maxhammer200 5
Brilliant percussion w/ Brazilian taste. Nice syncopations and changes- soaring melodic idee fixes are beautifully emotional. Thank you!
i adore dark moor, kamelot and angra!
Funny, I actually prefer Kamelot and Dark Moor to Angra. To each their own I guess.

These prog-metal fantasy bands tend to be hit or miss from my experience. I have no idea what it is that makes Angra so good compared to the Kamelots and Dark Moors of the world, but it's almost addictive to listen to. Also, I had no idea they picked up a new singer after Fireworks, even listening to them back and forth just now, I could still barely tell them apart. I guess Edu sounds a little like Bruce Dickenson, but other than that..
susygarcia82
uuuuf!! love Angra, with and without André Matos -who is so awesome, by the way!-
Temple of Shadows is my Fav.
mmesko6
Some of their best works, Unholy war, hunters and prey, Acid rain, so near so far and millennium sun to name a few.
AAHH! That is also something I must do before I die. I'm jealous
AH! i got to see these guys at a rare show in Los Angeles. I can now die happy.
maxhammer200 5
DAM! It's nice to not be stupid and appreciate MAG music like this! This band is awesome! Please come to SF, the whole dam city needs a real boost like you all. I know it's hard coz - you see - we are in crisis. Coz Americans are stupid- spoon fed and ignorant. DAM! We need you!
Can someone please post their favorites songs/albums for Angra? I have a hard time sorting out the really good stuff from their discography. Thanks!
bocult
These guys are probably my favorite metal bands of all time - At this time !! I love the musicianship . Edu Falaschi is a great vocalist.
Ummm, the drummer is Aquiles Priester... right? I wish they played in the states, I forced my friend to see them when he went to Equador for school. He did not regret it.

Are you tired of the Weeping F**got crying out for attention? Well I have the solution. The key is to "Out-Troll" the Troll. Willow and Moomoo spam about Godsuck, so lets all spam about our favorite bands. Once we have a good fifty people spamming and trolling, Willow will become powerless and fade back into his hole and continue wacking it to Rodsmack posters. Then we can stop OUR trolling and get back to a clean, Willow-free environment. Who's with me?!!!
Im just happy they finally have temple of shadows and Aurora Consurgens 2 great albums
rdgarcia88
Angra was founded by Rafael Bittencourt, not by Matos and Loureiro
I have but one word for you: WIN
got one song off it but yeah, Angra's awesome!
You must get Temple of Shadows. The End.
Hmmm...this is only the second time I've ever listened to one of their songs, and I've been completely blown away both times so far. Incredible. Truly incredible.
My favorite f**king band EVER. I'm such a fan now, that I am going to get them tattooed on me. I discovered Angra during my first few listens on pandora, but I had only heard "Salvation Suicide" and "Scream Your Heart Out". I liked those songs, but I didn't love them. I got ahold of Aurora Consurgens just because of those two songs however, and listened to the whole album. I couldn't find a song I didn't like. Shortly after I grabbed Fireworks, ToS, Holy Land, and Angels Cry. I LOVE ANGRA!!! \m/
KIKO SHREDS!!!!
First time hearing these guys...BAD A**!!!
Make that two Angra songs I've thumbed up now, since Rebirth just played and it is freaking awesome.
Looking through my station details I just noticed that the Angra song I'd thumbed up was also Nothing to Say, so yay for that song I guess!
Willow strikes again I see will shall never bee rid of him i suppose i wish they would just Ip ban him anyways Angra is a very good band
what makes James Labrie's voice wimpy? Surrounded, space dye vest, wither, all great songs...ever y t h i n g else andyczech i agree! cheers!
Very cool to see a band like this coming out of Brazil, most seem to be from Scandinavia for some odd reason. Or the countries close to them, at least.
zizbang7
Nobody ever mentions the bass player...lis t e n close, this guy is good...bette r than most!
andyczech
I am certainly no fan of slow sogs but Angra is clear exception here. They are so different from other metal bands - it probably helps that they are from Brazil - the latino taste for melodic appeal to any music is all evident in their stuff. I love them. And to the dude who uses profanity in every other word: get a life, please....
andyczech
to bury.amy: thier "cheesy" songs are way better than wimpy voice of James LaBrie on Dream Theater. In my opinion, Angra is the only band that can make heartwrenchi n g slow songs about human relations, and melody wise, they are unmatched. The only musicians who can even come close in slow pieces are Jeff Beck and Vai, but in their case, virtuosity makes their quitar sing instead of a singer. Just listen to the harmonies and how smart the arrangements are, with tasty guitar double licks. I am cert
Dude, look up the bonus track on Aurora Consurgens called "Out of This World". Words can't explain... F**king masterpiece! I'm about to cry it's so f**king awesome! Ever hear a song that's just so f**king cool it makes you feel like crying like a big p**sy? Holy s**t! THE MUSIC OF THE GODS! \m/>_<\m/
stinkingrose s 3
Holy moly! This is AMAZING.
Angra Rocks! I wish they would tour in the U.S. more!
gnomehater1
OMG! I love synchronized guitar playing, especially at high speed! More bands should train and do this! :D
