Arcadia

During a short hiatus in late 1984 and early 1985, three Duran Duran members -- lead singer Simon LeBon, keyboardist Nick Rhodes, and drummer Roger Taylor -- formed Arcadia, a short-lived splinter group which offered an artier version of Duran Duran's new wave synth pop. Arcadia released their only album, So Red the Rose, in 1985, just after Duran Duran's popularity reached a peak. Consequently, the album became a hit based on name recognition alone, as did the single "Election Day," which sailed into the American and British Top Ten. After their brief moment of success, the members of Arcadia re-formed Duran Duran without guitarist Andy Taylor. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi

Love the sound of arcadia so much i vote "elecion day". Oh and i have almost every song that d d have sang in the 80s.
Arcadia eclipses all DD efforts after View to A Kill.
I agree with John. Arcadia was what I wanted Duran Duran to be.
Couldn't wait to get this one on tape back then...so much more emotions in this album then DD. Much more reflective of B Ferry music

So Red The Rose is album definitely worth checking out , even if you're not a Duranie. DD's sound is hardly resonant on this album

Someone had recommended Arcadia to me a few years ago and naturally I was a bit skeptic about trying it out since I hadn't been around during the release of "So Red The Rose". Boy was I glad I tried this album out. The combination of Simon Le Bon , Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor creates a very mystical feel to the listener ( Think Lady Ice or Election Day.) and So Red The Rose is an overall interesting album to hear from start as each song is intricately different. If anyone happens to wonder

Let's be clear, Andy Taylor left twice, one in the late eighties and only came back for Red Carpet where the band booted his rear.

Can't detect any Duran--Duran here!
The whole album flows, I can listen from start to finish. And I think this is a better reflection of Nick's musical aesthetic (sp) because you can hear shades of this album on "the devils", but that album didn't work 'cause you're missing the lebon way with vox.
GREAT SONGS
Totally underrated album, I'd actually like to see these three guys put out another one. Duran Duran was never the same once Roger & Andy left and Arcadia channeled everything I loved about double D and enhanced it.

And yes, that is Grace Jones. And Sting.

This is an amazing recording that stands the test of time. Thank you Simon, Nick and Roger for creating such a beautiful piece of art. I still love So Red the Rose, and it makes me so happy that future generations can experience this.

On this song Election Day... the female vocal is that Grace Jones?
year before they all got together and played and started recording Astronaut.

Before releasing Red Carpet Massacre, it was announced that Andy Taylor was no longer with Duran Duran. He has since published a book about his life as a member of the band.
Roger actually left first, right after Live Aid. Andy followed shortly thereafter to follow a solo career. Of the original five, John then left during the recording of Medazzaland, which left Nick and Simon with guitarist Warren Cuccarello as a trio.

About 2001 the original five members began discussing reforming the three-Taylor s - R h o d e s - L e B o n line-up, and Warren left for a very short-lived Missing Persons reunion. I believe he now owns a restaurant in the L.A. area. It was at least a y
I think Michelle's right about the history -- and Roger left Duran Duran around this time or shortly after, isn't that correct?
I think this review isn't quite accurate. They reformed Duran Duran with Andy...he left actually pretty recently, like within the past couple years, if memory serves.

They also don't do this little album justice for its innovative departures and interesting use of orchestral instruments.
Also, a 'remix' album, Heaven's Eyes, was released at a later date. It contained several remixes of the singles from from So Red the Rose, as well as remixes of the title track of the movie, Say the Word. I managed to find this on eBay several years ago, and if you can find it, it's definitely worth getting!
Nick Rhodes is the main influence in me trying out synthesizers . I was already hooked from the start of the 80's, but Nick R., and specifically the Arcadia album cemented my desire to compose electronic music. Thanks Mr. Rhodes!
