Band Of Skulls

The gritty English trio Band of Skulls craft bluesy and ballsy slabs of atmospheric indie rock that echo the work of contemporaries like the Kills, Duke Spirit, and the Black Keys. Formed by Russell Marsden (guitar and vocals), Emma Richardson (bass and vocals), and Matt Hayward (drums) while attending college in the city of Southampton, the band (which was originally called Fleeing New York) recorded a buzz-worthy demo in 2008, which resulted in its full-length debut album, Baby Darling Doll Face Honey in 2009 and an accompanying international tour. For their second album, the band decamped to Wales' Rockfield Studios to work with producer Ian Davenport (Supergrass, Badly Drawn Boy). Sweet Sour finally arrived in February 2012 and contained the crunchy single "The Devil Takes Care of His Own," which had been a minor hit in Canada the previous year. The first material from their next album, produced by Nick Launay, appeared in the form of the riff-based single, "Asleep at the Wheel" in January 2014. Himalayan, the accompanying full-length, was issued that spring. ~ James Christopher Monger & James Wilkinson, Rovi

Just saw BOS play in Pomona, CA. Missed them when they were in the US a while back but glad I caught them in CA this time. They're awesome live and put on a great show!

MY favorite band for a number of years now. Not just for the rock but also the acoustic numbers such as Honest, reminds me of Pentangle. Who just happen to have influenced Jimmy Page

My 'band of the hour' for quite some time now. Love their versatility and vocal blend. Fantastic band that deserves a wide audience!

I grew up in the '60s and '70s. I just started listening to Band of Skulls and they recall Led Zeppelin and John Lee Hooker better than any of the bands out there today. Band of Skulls put an original perception on hard rockin' blues and the mixed voices are great.

Agree with 4th comment down, take the Kills and add the power of ten Grinches plus two. Very distinctive sound - here's hoping more people catch on to how good this stuff is.

I just saw them and they were the most amazing thing EVER!!! They are wonderful live. Totally worth sitting through a mediocre opening band (the second band was good, though). Thanks to iTunes free single of the week, I discovered what is now one of my favorite bands (The Offspring will always be first, and Band of Skulls is my second fav :) ) I love Band of Skulls!

First time I heard this band was on Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock... the single "I Know What I Am"... so I had to explore more of their music. They are fabulous. "Dull Gold Heart" is wonderful.

On August 10th, 2009, X1FM proudly welcomed Band of Skulls to the Open Door stage for an exclusive performance. The English trio served up a full set of gritty indie rock and, before the show, the band's Emma Richardson painted us a lovely picture of red and silver fruit...or something.
