The gritty English trio Band of Skulls craft bluesy and ballsy slabs of atmospheric indie rock that echo the work of contemporaries like the Kills, Duke Spirit, and the Black Keys. Formed by Russell Marsden (guitar and vocals), Emma Richardson (bass and vocals), and Matt Hayward (drums) while attending college in the city of Southampton, the band (which was originally called Fleeing New York) recorded a buzz-worthy demo in 2008, which resulted in its full-length debut album, Baby Darling Doll Face Honey, in 2009 and an accompanying international tour. For their second album, the band decamped to Wales' Rockfield Studios to work with producer Ian Davenport (Supergrass, Badly Drawn Boy). Sweet Sour arrived in February 2012. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
I first heard them at a friends house and have been obsessed with them ever since. I just got five CDs and still can't stop listening to Baby Darling Doll Face Honey!
Agree with 4th comment down, take the Kills and add the power of ten Grinches plus two. Very distinctive sound - here's hoping more people catch on to how good this stuff is.

One of my favorite bands of ALL TIME! Both Albums are excellent, from beginning to end. I play them over and over and over....and STILL never get sick of their songs. Saw them in NYC at a bar...AWESOME!!!
I just saw them and they were the most amazing thing EVER!!! They are wonderful live. Totally worth sitting through a mediocre opening band (the second band was good, though). Thanks to iTunes free single of the week, I discovered what is now one of my favorite bands (The Offspring will always be first, and Band of Skulls is my second fav :) ) I love Band of Skulls!
First time I heard this band was on Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock... the single "I Know What I Am"... so I had to explore more of their music. They are fabulous. "Dull Gold Heart" is wonderful.
On August 10th, 2009, X1FM proudly welcomed Band of Skulls to the Open Door stage for an exclusive performance. The English trio served up a full set of gritty indie rock and, before the show, the band's Emma Richardson painted us a lovely picture of red and silver fruit...or something.
