Watch Levon Helm sing this on Youtube. Love the Band and Helm. Arkansas boy forever.

meadowshire, I think it was Derek Jeter, not positive though but I'm pretty sure that's who it was.
susan, you are so right!!!!!!! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
The Band had such great lyrics like...."Up on Cripple Creek she sends me, if I sprang a leak, she'd mend me. I don't have to speak, she defends me, a drunkards dream if I ever did see one."
Rebel Song straight from the heart!
This is fantastic, but I too prefer Joan Baez's version.

Living in Richmond, this song has special meaning...Al l m a n Bros also cover a great version...ne e d to get that Yankee that killed Virgil's brother
I love this song. Love Joan Baez's version too.
Little trivia here. Did you know that this song was recorded in Sammy Davis Jr's Pool House..

A sweet song that really sums up the death of the old south.
Great imagery. At age 8, 1969, hearing it on the KLH stereo, summer house, and thinking about it, alone. I guess it was my first conception of the Civil War South. "I don't care if the money's no good." Didn't understand what it meant, just that it meant something.
I love this song
I'm not sure If I ever get tired of this song or not :)
