Pandora shows the lyrics from another song -- something about checking your work. Nevertheless , The Band (with significant help from The Staples) knocks The Weight out of the park on The Last Waltz. RIP Richard, Rick and Levon. This is just such a great song.

Wrong lyrics....
CLASSIC LIVE BLUES ROCK Performed by most of the best in the business. RIP Levon, we miss you too much. Know you're singing your a** off in The Undying Lands with so many others. Thanks for all the times your music has brought me out of a funk. See you guys soon.
The Weight may very well be an old gospel song . Let the in.net have a a go . Music from Big Pink blends several different styles into what is a most interesting sound. Reminiscent of know one . Leon , Robbie and the crew continue on in different endeavors minus one . The whole album sounded awesome in the 60 & 70

Great to hear Pop Staples doing what he was made for. RIP.
Beautiful rendition with Mavis adding soul.
Nazareth wrote Hair Of The Dog. As well as Love Hurts. R.E.M. wrote Losing My Religion, among others, but definitely not The Weight.
The songwriter credits are dead wrong. It was originally credited solely to Robbie Robertson, but the other members of The Band were involved according to Levon Helm.
Great song great band uncomfortabl e weighty confusing situation brought to mind and gut yucky feeling too much of a weight today
I love Mavis!
People used to get the hippie hippie shakes, now they listen to The Alabama Shakes and try to avoid earthquakes. Sippin on milkshakes.
joe The Weight was written in the mid to late 60s, Stype might have been born during in that era. I think it was released by The Band in 68 or 69. Maybe even before that.
One of my all time favorite songs.
Mike stipe did in fact help write this song he's old enough REM debuted in 1983
One of my favorite bands of all time! I have the Last Waltz concert on video and its probably the most watched movie in my home by all of my family!
Something tells me R.E.M. didn't write this song as much as I appreciate them too...
Wow

This is the absolute finest version of this song...I went to see Mavis Staple in concert a couple months ago...she still gives a nod to this tune in her act, 33 years later.
