Brighton, England's Bat for Lashes is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Natasha Khan. The Pakistan-born Khan pulls from her art school education and her experience producing multimedia installations when it comes to writing songs. She also cites Steve Reich and Susan Hiller as influences, while echoes of Björk and Siouxsie Sioux are heard throughout Bat for Lashes' mystical indie rock sound. Bat for Lashes' first single, "The Wizard," was digitally released by DiS, and issued as a 7" on Khan's own She Bear imprint in early 2006. That fall, with "Trophy" burning up the BBC indie rock chart, the Fur & Gold LP arrived in the U.K. in September. The album was released a year later in the U.S. to much critical acclaim. Bat for Lashes' ambitious 2009 album, Two Suns, revolved around the concept of Khan and her blonde, hedonistic alter ego Pearl, and featured a duet with Scott Walker. Khan's third album, 2012's The Haunted Man, raised eyebrows with its cover image depicting her in the nude, but songs such as the single "Laura" were more subtle and subdued than Bat for Lashes' previous efforts. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, Rovi
Great music. But once again I wonder who does the bio who is always out of synch. In the bio you compare her style to Bjork and Siouxsie and then never mention those in similar artist. Get it together, makes me think you don't know your music.
Love love love Bat for Lashes. I have Tori Amos, Kate Bush, and Bjork musical roots so it isn't strange that I instantly fell in love with her music. I do not think that anyone is creating magical music this good right now, except for the incredible Florence and the Machine. A different sound from Bat for Lashes but equally as amazing. Bat for Lashes and Florence and the Machine have breathed new life into the music scene. Thank God!! I hope to be lucky enough to see Bat for Lashes in concert
seeing her in seattle this month very excited.. i think you should replace cat power w/ imogen heap or bjork dont think many of her records remind me of cat power.. just a thought
Their live show is incredible; go see them if you can. Yes, there's the amazing voice, the unique instrumentation, the friendly rapport among the musicians, the gorgeous songs-- but you absolutely have to see Natasha Khan's stage presence for yourself.
