My junior year (1997), I got up in a karaoke tent at the Heidelberg Freundschaft Fest on PHV and sang this song with a group of my guy friends. It was a blast.
Saw Saturday Night Fever this past weekend. One of the movie channels was showing it for 35th anniversary. Gosh I feel old cause it seems just like yesterday I was dancing to this in high school. Still great after all these years. Don't make music or movies like this anymore. Sigh.
Now, if only they could come up with a movie suited to fit this anthem of a song... Oh wait, they did! Launched an entirely new sound, making a way for a new dance craze, and help make John Travolta a household name. Not much of todays art can hold up to this. Where are the Gibbs of today?
Ma song at mile 5 when running 6. I also like to listen to it and sing to stay alive in this world, staying alive is the key in this dog eat dog world.
How can you not like this song? Nothing wrong with a little disco mixed in with rock music. Disco is part of the history of pop/rock music, just like British invasion, surf, R & B, soul, grunge, etc.
Also, the beat is perfect for chest compressions in CPR -- truly, Stayin' Alive!

this song makes me want to dance with julie haggerty!
I always wished I'd seen the movie in theaters but seeing the R version on TV: I probably would have walked out. Now, I can appreciate how sanitizing it to PG really ripped out the core of it, & the R version is the real quality version.
