Felix Mendelssohn

February 3, 1809 - November 4, 1847
born in Hamburg, Germany, composed during the Romantic period
Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) had a life opposite the image of the Romantic ideal. He was well-educated, had very stable home and professional lives, and never had to struggle to be accepted. Even as a teen he was producing lasting classics: the Octet for strings and the Midsummer Night's Dream Overture. Mendelssohn's music reflects a gift for melody and a thorough understanding of form. The 48 Songs Without Words are prime examples of Romantic piano literature, just as the Violin Concerto is a standard of the concerto repertoire. His "Italian" and "Scottish" symphonies and the oratorio Elijah are among his other important works. ~ Patsy Morita, Rovi

Don't read this because it actually works. You will be kissed on the nearest possible Friday by the love of you life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However if you don't post this you will die in 2 days. Now you've started reading so don't stop. This is so scary put this on at least 5 songs in 143 minutes. When done press f6 and your lover's name will come on the screen in big letters. This is so scary because it actually works
I'm looking for his Rondo Cappricioso on piano. Anyone know of a recording of this?
songs without words 2 !!!!!!!!!!!! ! ! ! ! ! : 0
The Italian Symphony is my favorite symphony of Mendelsshon. it really rocks especially in the first and last movements. He's the best romantic composer when it comes to woodwind scoring.

His work is breathtaking

His sister is talented, too.
Lovely...
Thank you Annette. You are the voice of reason in the Garden of the Gullible.

I question this biography. Wagner targeted Mendelssohn while he was alive and composing and made it difficult for him to make a living later in his life. The Mendelssohn project helped to save some of his compositions and some were smuggled out of Germany and taken to other countries. Do your homework before writing a biography!
Thank you for such a beautiful song and for sharing your spirit with us.
Péter Nagy is almost unknown here in US, but he is really brilliant!
Happy B'dat Felix, Molta Grazia
Like and admire his violin concerto, I can play parts of it---
one of the all time best composers ever!
Am I the only person annoyed by the bio's implication that Mendelssohn was an anomaly, someone who composed great music of the Romantic era despite the handicaps of domestic tranquility and professional acceptance? Please, Pandora, spare us the suffering artiste myth.
Happy mind♥♥♥ such sentiment & accuracy in each note, just listen more♥♥♥
Mendelssohn died after a series of strokes, brought on by overwork and stress after the death of his sister Fanny. It was a condition that many of his family died from as well.
Woowoo
How come they always die so young, Mozart, Chopin....
Favorite composer: Felix Mendelssohn
Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64
A Midsummer Night's Dream
I know of no other Romantic composer who could write for woodwinds like Mendelssohn. He was the master.
His music is to die for, like so many classical composers. Wonder why he died so young too, when he seemed to have an ideal life. Now what's up with the lyrics? A very short song about some captain not dying before his unborn kid gets to know him?!?!?! I can't imagine that being the words to such a long piece of music, well at least that piece was way too long for that song and didn't match the words. I guess another bug in Panorama's program.

beautiful music, all of you dbags need to shut the hell up about weird s**t tho
It was nice to find out he comes from a Jewish family like myself. I find his music to be very serine and comforting. It also helps me with my anxiety and insomnia. Bravo! Shalom.
Apparently, not all great people come from humble orgins.
A very talented man
