An important cog in Los Angeles' doo wop community during the '50s, Bobby Day wrote three often-covered early rock classics in 1957-1958. Day was part of the Hollywood Flames, one of the area's top R&B vocal groups, and briefly part of Bob & Earl, later to hit without Day on "Harlem Shuffle." Day formed his own group, the Satellites, in 1957, cutting the original "Little Bitty Pretty One" for Class Records. A nearly identical cover by Thurston Harris beat the original out, so Day countered with the driving "Rockin' Robin" in 1958, an R&B chart-topper. Its flip, "Over and Over," was a hit in its own right, although the Dave Clark Five's 1965 revival is better remembered today. Day waxed a few more hits for Class in 1959, including "That's All I Want" and a derivative "The Bluebird, the Buzzard & the Oriole," flitting from label to label during the '60s. ~ Bill Dahl, Rovi
Don't read this cause it actually works. You will be kissed on the nearest possible Friday by the love of your life. Tomorrow will be the best day ofyour life. However if you don't post this you will die in 2 days. Now you've started reading so don't stop. This is so scary. Put this on at least 5 songs in 143 minutes. When done press f6 and your lovers name will come on the screen in big letters. This is scary cause it really works
Have listened to this song since it was first released back in the fifties and have performed it several times, but never have heard some of words used in the version printed above. It's Jaybird Street not daybird. It's Bird bandstand not bird bath stand. lol The lyrics given above definitely have some errors.
Really wish i could have been around back than great music

Hearing Rockn Robin makes me feel pre-historic. I was in the live audience for a Dick Clark Show back in the 50s when Bobby Day presented the song to the vast DC audience. There was a stage hand sitting off camera on the stage, pulling and pushing a long pole that had the 'rockin' robin' in a birdhoue at the other end.
@Kemadaise! AMEN to that! Elvis STOLE black artist music and passed it off as his. Only true music fans know this and accept it!

I remember Bobby Days version of Rockin Robin more than the Dave Clark version even tho that version was very good too. I remember cutting out of High School during the lunch break and heading down on Fordham Road to a restaurant with my brown bag baloney sandwich hidden under my jacket (so the owner of the restaurant see me with a brown bag) and just buying a coke and throwing a quarter in the juke box to listen to Bobby Days Rockin Robin and Over and Over. It was a great time. Yes, I did get c
