Rock-oriented New Orleans brass band Bonerama were formed by trombonists Mark Mullins and Craig Klein, both of whom had been members of Harry Connick's band since 1990. Mullins obtained a weekly residency at the New Orleans nightclub Tipitina's in the summer of 1998 and turned it into a trombone summit. In addition to Klein, he enlisted trombonists Rick Trolsen, Steve Suter, and Brian O'Neill (who died of a heart attack in December 2005), as well as sousaphone player Matt Perrine and guitarist Bert Cotton. The drum chair has been held at various times by Eric Bolivar, Terence Higgins, Russell Batiste, and Stanton Moore. Despite its horn-heavy instrumentation, Bonerama were a rock band, known for playing such covers as "Frankenstein" by the Edgar Winter Group along with songs by Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and the Allman Brothers Band. The group's first album, Live at the Old Point, was released on October 9, 2001. Live from New York followed on August 26, 2005. Bonerama's third consecutive live album, Bringing It Home, which had been recorded at Tipitina's, was released on July 24, 2007. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
garhead I was there at the waterfront too and I second that thought. They put on a great show. They're definitely a band to see; and peace to all of my portland people!

Watched this group at the Portland Waterfront Blues Fest on July 4th, 2009 and was totally blown away. You just can't do this kind of thing with trombones and yet....!!!! If you haven't seen them, DO!
I got to see them in Little Rock, and I cannot wait to see them again. Reminds me I need to check their tour dates. I might have to do a little driving to see them, but it would be worth it!
These guys came on my Radiohead radio. It seems like an odd pairing, but it rocked my face off! Being from New Orleans, I've seen these guys for years, at festivals and clubs. It's crazy-cool and slightly surreal to see this little band with a big sound on something as mainstream as internet radio. If you ever get a chance, don't miss them; you'll dance 'til you're dead, or until the sun comes up, whichever comes first.
