Brad Yoder

Pittsburgh-based singer/songwriter Brad Yoder derived considerable influence from folk veterans Bruce Cockburn and Dar Williams in developing his earnest pop/rock style, though his sound is far closer to contemporaries like Matthew Sweet, Elliott Smith, and Jason Falkner in their tunefulness. After two self-releases -- 1997's Best Sunday Heart and the 1999 acoustic live set Talk to Total Strangers -- Yoder hit his stride performing live in Pittsburgh-area coffeehouses. He was named Best Solo Musician in the 2001 InPittsburgh Newsweekly readers' poll, and financed his first "proper" CD that year entirely on donations from fans. Used was released on the Reverie Records imprint in summer 2002 to some critical acclaim, with Yoder continuing to tour small venues in the Northeast. ~ Joseph McCombs, Rovi

I saw Brad in downtown Buffalo in 2002, at a coffeehouse called Spot, and the fact that I remember all of these things should be a clear indication of how much his music impressed me. I listened to Used for about a month on repeat, and still throw it on my playlist pretty regularly.

Brad just released his new CD, Excellent Trouble, in September 2010.
Brad was voted “Best Acoustic Artist” not once, but 4 out of the last 5 years by Pittsburgh City Paper. He has opened for number of artists, including Erin McKeown, Tegan & Sara, the Cowboy Junkies, Lucy Kaplansky, Carrie Newcomer, the Vigilantes of Love, Emmylou Harris, Robyn Hitchcock, Ellis Paul, and Rob Dickinson of Catherine Wheel, plus played 2nd stage for David Gray, Peter Paul & Mary, and Steve Earle/Jackso n Browne. His songs have appeared on “NUMB3RS,” “Dawson’s Creek” and even NPR.
Brad's a great singer/songw r i t e r and I always enjoy seeing his show when I'm in the Pittsburgh area
