Bride

Unlike many of their Christian metal colleagues of the '80s (Stryper, Barren Cross, etc.), Louisville, Kentucky's Bride continue to preach their message of faith, uninterrupted by personnel and stylistic about faces, going on two decades now. Originally calling themselves Matrix, brothers Dale (vocals) and Troy Thompson (guitar) began writing songs as early as 1983, but it would take them three years of anonymous labor -- recording demos to sell at concerts and through Contemporary Christian Music magazine -- to attract the attention of Refuge Records. When they did, the label went so far as to create a new imprint -- appropriately called Pure Metal -- specifically for the band, which by this time also featured guitarist Steve Osborne, bassist Scott Hall, and drummer Stephan Rolland. There followed two albums: 1986's Show No Mercy and 1987's Live to Die, whose nasty titles and aggressive, Judas Priest-inspired songs belied the ultra-devout Christian messages evident in their lyrics. 1989's Silence Is Madness found the band reduced to a four-piece, and 1990s End of the Age proved a rather premature greatest-hits collection, since Bride returned to action the very next year with their fourth studio album, Kinetic Faith. As well as introducing a new rhythm section (consisting of bassist Rick Foley and drummer Jerry McBroom) to back up the Dale and Troy Thompson, this and subsequent LPs Snakes in the Playground (1992) and Scarecrow Messiah (1994) showed a mellower side of the group, which appeared to have adopted the prevalent hair metal trends of the time. Another greatest-hits set -- curiously entitled Shotgun Wedding -- emerged in 1995, and after welcoming new bass player Steve Curtsinger, Bride carried on releasing albums (1995's Drop, 1997's The Jesus Experience, etc.) and touring regularly throughout the decade, culminating in a series of live albums to usher in the new millennium. 2001 found the indefatigable brothers breaking in yet another new rhythm section (bassist Lawrence Bishop and drummer Mike Loy) with the Fistful of Bees album -- the better to commemorate their 20th anniversary in music with 2003's This Is It. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi

When you go fishing you use bait that attracts. The church still hasn't figured that one out.
Good comment rattpack33
Bride my all time favorite band!!! Definitely like to see Silence is Madness added to Pandora's line-up
Its so funny how people can say rock music is of satan and you shouldn't listen too it even if its talking about Christ but they watch tv shows that are not of God that teach un Christ like stuff and go to church that teaches stuff that's not in the bible. I'm sorry but only a person can damn themselves to hell, God calls it free choice. It's not the music we listen to, or movies we watch but the choices we make in life when dealing with sin.
No Scarecrow Messiah or Drop? Those were great albums.
Bride has released at least two albums since This Is It.
yeah I know a lot of Christian Churches that preach a good message but have no spiritual conviction of sin. That being said....If a person listens to Christian metal will they go to hell? how about country? how about new age? classical? I will agree that sometimes there are artist that seem to come out of the wrong spirit, but, If they reach just one soul that would have otherwise been left behind, does that mean that they are in the wrong? Who are we to judge another if we don't know them?
you should listen to your own statement tigers.lsu. Yes Satan does use music to further his ministry of evil, however it is not the STYLE of music that makes it bad. you should do some research on the bands and their beliefs before you go slandering names and making such a broad statement.
Assassin x, your statement is invalid. Listen not to the lyrics, but the spirit BEHIND the music. I do t care what the lyrics say, it is the spirit of the music. Please, use discernment when you listen to music. Bride, stryper and all other rock or metal "Christian" bands are from only satan. Remember satan comes as an angel of light and is the music maker. This is satans music
To "oneofthehec k l e r s " stryper is Christian and just because they play one judas priest song doesn't mean they aren't. Have u ever actually listened to the old stryper music? Apparently not!

Jesus Experience was the strangest departure, but after some time it grew on me. Unfortunatel y , Dale Thompson has become a Univeralist, meaning that no one goes to hell and everyone gets saved, regardless of their actual faith. This is disappointin g because I was a huge fan of their strong message of earlier work. Loved Kinetic Faith and Scarecrow!
Sweet!!!
I love this band! Are they still together?
oneoftheheck l e r s
Umm roxdad01... stryper has a new album with a judas priest song and a motley crew song... they sold out
No stylistic changes???? Hello, kinetic faith? Anybody remember the flack Bride took for that project? Bride was one of my favorite bands but they are not a Christian band at least not if you believe what the Bible teaches. Dale Thompson's interpretati o n of the Scriptures left Christianity behind years ago when he embraced absolute universal salvation. Just like the church father Origen, Dale believes even the devils are saved in the end.
Ya don't agree with the comments about stryper!! They still spread the word even more the in the past! Stryper are great witnesses for Jesus
Glad to have been a fan since the Matrix days on Bardstown Road

I'm not sure it's totally fair to compare Bride to Stryper (specificall y ) by stating that they 'continue to preach their message of faith, uninterrupte d by personnel and stylistic about faces' as though the guys in Stryper have not continued to share their faith, albeit in a human/flawed / i m p e r f e c t way at times. I'm sure the dudes in Bride have shared similar personal/sty l i s t i c / s p i r i t u a l ups and downs with their Christian metal colleagues. The Lord has used Stryper & others, in spite of it all.

I was at a concert where Dale expressed his displeasure with their former record label releasing Shotgun Wedding as remixed hits without the band's approval. So maybe that is where the "curious" title came from: forced and with alterior motives. I did like that album too though...

I'm a 53-year old lover of the classic rock genre (older Guardian, Whitecross, etc.), but I gotta admit - when Snakes in the Playground in in the tray, the windows go down and the volume goes up. Keep rockin'!
20 years and still going strong :)

Mr. Ted Kirkpatrick if you read this I'm also praying for Roger Martinez of Veangence Rising his band rocks and I'm praying for his salvation,go d Bless U.
No, no, no, no, NO!!! If people think this is metal, they're absolutly wrong! Good message and all, but the lead vocals are just annoying. See, now my ears are bleeding... thanks a bunch Bride.
They kind of remind me of Guns n' Roses, if you know what i'm saying
Wow hard to think that bands like August burns red and As i lay Dying exist because of these guys.

Very old school, but talented musicians none-the-les s .
Sending a message! God Bless! Right-on.

He doesn't seem to sing...... just sneer.
These guys don't really have a good quality singer.

Awful, I'd say.
greek_dave
are they still a band???
Bride. If it weren't for these guys, Whitecross, Stryper, and Bloodgood, who knows where or what I might have ended up. The funny thing is, I've seen these guys twice in concert but I've never met Dale. . .

Some songs on here seem to be a lot heavyer than their older stuff
They used to do a free show every year at one of the local churches where I live, and they were always worth the time to stop and bring some friends.

THis is very very strange music.
