Bronson Arroyo

Bronson Arroyo's first full season in the Major Leagues was a good one. The right-hander was 10-9 with a 4.03 ERA for Boston, and he established a new career high in strikeouts. He was also an integral part of the Red Sox's dramatic fight to a World Series victory, as the team triumphed over American League rivals the New York Yankees and swept the St. Louis Cardinals in four games to break Boston's 86-year championship drought. Arroyo topped off the dream season with another wish fulfilled, the issue of his first album. Released on July 12, 2005 (coinciding nicely with the 2005 All Star Game), Covering the Bases features Arroyo covering a batch of grunge and modern rock hits from his formative years in Key West, FL, and various minor league pitching assignments. "In 1997 I played in Lynchburg, Virginia for the Hillcats," he says in the liner notes for his version of the Verve Pipe's "Freshman." "That season I heard [this song] a hundred times and it became a favorite of mine." Arroyo was backed by professional session musicians on the album, which also includes selections from Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters, and Goo Goo Dolls, among others. But he's joined by fellow Red Sox Johnny Damon, Lenny DiNardo, and Kevin Youkilis on a run through "Dirty Water," the Standells classic that always marks a Red Sox win at Fenway Park. ~ Johnny Loftus, Rovi

GOD REDS!
no clue who he is, but he is as good as most of the singing show singers. I'd like to hear more.
A very respectable effort!
I don't care what anyone says I like Bronson Arroyo's music and if you don't like it here is a suggestion, don't listen or buy it. Trashing someone is easy to do from behind a computer.

while i understand your dislike of the disparagemen t here on the boards, the simple fact is, bronson's music sucks. i mean, yes, good for him for getting to do this - you're right, i'd be recording an album/songs if i had the chance, whether or not i suck - but it's still sub-par music with little creativity or talent.
sheit_13
absolutely agree paul-heather . Good for him.
Wow! Don't ever try to do something you've always wanted to do just for fun...accord i n g to most of the comments here, that's just no the right thing to do. Hell, if I had a chance to cover some of my favorite songs by my favorite artists (and I could sing at all), you bet your @ss I'd give it a whirl! There's probably enough nay-sayers commenting on here that obviously have all the answers, why don't you guys try it, see how that works out for ya.
bharvey93
Respect to him for trying, but just because youre wealthy and can pay to make albums, have your voice covered, pay a backup band so your guitar fiddling is hidden... No. Still, he knows good music. Just can't get close to it. Ah well. Better luck next time, MLB
ONE WORD desrcibes this song--Karaok e
good GOD i loved bronson when he was on the sox. i was PISSED when he got traded. i sort of knew he played guitar, but i didn't know he had an album out until i just heard it three minutes ago on my "goo goo dolls" radio. awesome. :D i wish he came up with his own songs though, because i think he could do really well with an album of his own. Hes a great ball player though, i am a big fan. go sox and happy new year everyone!
i like him because he was on the red sox
funboy77mm
he sounds constipated.
He sounds like a ball player? Everyday Joes go sing Karaoke. Major Leaguers cut an album.

Why would you cover a song and make it sound exactly like the original?
dude i loved this guy

i had no idea he was a singer
IT'S NOT BAD. I LIKE IT.
hes ok but i dont like his voice
but he was on the red sox
i love the red sox
jesus...
I like him too, he is listenable.. .
i like him singing slide better
the story behind the music makes it even more interesting
i miss arroyo in boston.
vceye
he spoiled my fave song played by goo goo dolls :(
Don't cut him down. He is cool! I'm going to create a station for him now as a matter of fact.
He is cool. My brother plays baseball and is in a band too like Bronson. My brother is always saying how can you do both and now I know you can. He did so therefore my brother can.
An insult to the originals... .
Oh yeah. He's so original...N O T !
katie.hindes
So he covers other people's songs... just as a bad version of what the original artist has done and we're supossed to accept him as an artist? Hardly.
I don't get it...
