Co-founded in 1999 by vocalist Alex Band and guitarist Aaron Kamin, the Calling found a home amongst such ready-for-radio rock acts of the early 21st century as Matchbox Twenty, Train, and Fastball. Kamin and Band, both natives of Los Angeles, co-founded the group as teenagers (Kamin was dating Band's sister at the time), and a development deal with RCA followed shortly thereafter. Instrumental role players were recruited and an album was recorded, resulting in the release of Camino Palmero in July 2001. Although largely filled with post-grunge rock, the record became a popular release on the strength of "Wherever You Will Go," a love ballad that became an inescapable Top Five hit in multiple countries. Camino Palmero sold more than five million copies worldwide and went gold in America, thus setting the stage of the Calling's return in June 2004 with Two. The band's popularity had already dwindled by that point, however, and the Calling went on indefinite hiatus one year later, with Alex Band going on to pursue a solo career. ~ Greg Prato, Rovi
TO ANSWER Joshua Kelsch I would say Steve Perry, Phil Collins, and Belinda Carlisle did just as good or better on their own. Thats just 3. Major failurs would include Joe Perry.
These guys were my favorite. It's to bad that their success was short lived. I can't understand why most band members still think they will be better off solo. Name me one artist that had the same success as they did when they were with their band.
Wow, the lead singer was just past being a teenager when they recorded "Wherever You Will Go"? He does not sound that young... and he kind of does look like a pretty-boy, doesn't he? Surprising.
I was at Alice in Winterland in San Francisco a couple years ago and the headliner, Los Lonely Boys, dropped out because his wife was having a baby. The Calling had already played that night in San Jose.
Alex and Aaron came in and did an acoustic set instead and they blew me away. I don't have Two but Camino Palmero is a great album.
the lead singer is the physical embodiment of a boy band singer/dancer,... yet he's voice is soooo manly and hot!! love 'em! wooo "wherever u will go!!"
