The Cascades

An intriguing vocal group from San Diego, the Cascades sang in a light, pop-oriented style, but managed a Top Ten R&B hit in 1963, "Rhythm of the Rain" on Valiant. It was written by guitarist/lead singer John Gummoe, who joined fellow vocalists Eddie Snyder, David Stevens, David Wilson, and David Zabo. They also became a major attraction in England and Australia. They followed "Rhythm of the Rain" with "Shy Girl" and "Last Leaf," but neither duplicated their earlier success. "My First Day Alone" flopped, and the group moved to RCA. But they never again scored a hit, despite recording for Charter, Liberty, Arwin, Smash, Probe, UNI, London, and Can Base. They continued until the early '70s. ~ Ron Wynn, Rovi

Don't read this because it actually works. You will be kissed on the nearest possible Friday by the love of your life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However if you don't post this you will die in 2 days. Now you've started reading so don't stop. This is so scary put this on at least 5 songs in 143 minutes. When done press f6 and your lover's name will come on the screen in big letters. This is so scary because it actually works
rhythm of the rain a lousy song that's played too often

This is a great song no matter who sings it
A lot of 60's pop can be corny, but it sure is catchy. These guys could sing, and the musical arrangement of Rhythm of the Rain with the bells and sound effects was classic. I too heard the Ricky Nelson influence in their sound when growing up.
Love this song so soothing!
Fond memories of days gone by...too bad many never got the chance to experience them. Cruise nights help bring them back.

Another stupid bio from Rovi that makes it sound like they all died. They didn't. Check YouTube for recent concert footage. It's amazing how John Gummoe's voice has held up over the years. He still sounds like he's in his 30's.

I simply love this song. When this song came out, my parents weren't even thoughts yet. It also is a good lullaby if one is desperate enough.
I do like Johnny Burnette or it is Dorsey Burnette's version better. The song is one I always liked.
lots of practice in the old neighborhood where I grew up in SD

I agree with everyone who thought this was Ricky Nelson!

What a great song..I miss the sixties so much
I always thought this was Ricky Nelson using an alias.
Living in Oregon during the sixties and in high school this song had special meaning.
What a wonderful trip down memory lane! I had my 1st kiss to this song! But the romance was not to be. My parents wanted better for me.. I LOVED him & wanted to have a life w/ him.... Wondering if he is still out there & thinking of me. You are the man that I dream of, often, might U think of me too?!

Great Album!!!

What a wonderful version of the Johnny Burnette hit. They could cover anyone`s song and do very well.
I associate this song with my uncle. He brought back the German version in a 45 rpm, when he came back from Berlin (1963-4). It's a great song.

Always loved this song!
I've always love their song's when I was growing up, listening to them when my parents are playing it in the 70's.
Gets better every time I hear it.
I remember these guys well
Hard to believe this was a "one hit wonder". Love this song.

It always makes me sad when I hear this :| I wish I could travel back to the sixties!!!!
Glen Campbell was one of the musicians on this recording, little known fact!
I always thought rythem was a Ricky nelson song
This was my very first record I ever owned. Got it as a souvenir of a Cub Scout field trip to a local radio station way back when.
For all those who thought this was Ricky Nelson you might be interested to know that the Cascades were an early iinspiration for Ricky and he and David did a cover of this song on the T.V. show. Also, the Cascades were incredible in a live show......th e y could replicate almost any sound of the day!!
I used to travel down to San Diego in the late 60's to a night club where they played. Not only did they do Rhythm of the Rain, but they had a TREMENDOUS routine where they would say ...and then he/she dreamed they were (say) Matha of Martha and the Vandellas ... and they would sing their most popular song; then they would pick another group, do their hit and thy would go on for the evening. They could mimick almost any group.
they are the BEST!!!!
Great song that seems to stick to you. Know every word. 50 years and going!
I still knew nearly all the words now, almost 50 years later. Learned it when it came out on am radio in LA (kfwb 'channel 98')....
What an ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE SI MPLE LITTLE SONG THAT STICKS IN YOUR HEAD FOR EVER AND EVER!
