Never heard this version before, because I've always heard the lyric "I told you once, you son of a gun..." instead of "son of a b***h".
I agree with others that the Devil's part sounds better.

The song in itself is amazing, but knock-offs like "The Devil Came Back to Georgia" and the "The Devil Went Down to Jamaica" are horrible. This seems to be a running theme with classic songs.
"'The devil went down to Georgia, he was lookin' for a soul to steal' well that's f***ing bulls**t, I wouldn't be caught dead in *Georgia*"-Stephen Lynch

they have this song on guitar hero! it's kinda awesome. :)
I always found it strange that the devil could be beaten. But then I realized he tempted Johnny with greed and the end result was Johnny's pride swelling. Perhaps the devil gets his soul anyway. And I bet the golden fiddle's cursed.

And oddly, this showed up on my "Limelight" station, which is created for songs similar to Rush's Limelight. Go figure.
