Charlie Robison

Texas singer/songwriter Charlie Robison was born in Houston and raised on his family's ranch in the town of Bandera; absorbing the music he heard on the local honky tonk scene, he and brother Bruce -- later an acclaimed performer in his own right -- were also brought up on artists ranging from Black Sabbath to Gram Parsons to Bruce Springsteen. After discovering the thriving music scene in nearby Austin at age 15, Robison began writing his own material, drawing equal influence from rock and country; stints in the bands Chaparral and Two Hoots & a Holler followed, and he also joined the Millionaire Playboys, an all-star Austin ensemble. After contributing to albums from Alejandro Escovedo and Kelly Willis, Robison made his solo debut in 1995 with Bandera; Life of the Party followed three years later. Teaming up with his younger brother, Bruce, and fellow Texan Jack Ingram, in 2000 the trio released the appropriately named Unleashed Live. A second studio effort, Step Right Up, was issued in spring 2001. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

Saw Charlie on Ragbrai and was very approach able, love his song caviar & cocaine. For those of you who don't know ragbrai is the Register annual great bicycle ride across iowa. He played about a two and half hour set in 95 degree heat plus humidity so it was like 110. Props Charlie!

too bad he doesnt get more recognition
I have seen Charlie probably 20 times. Me and the ex used to go to Wolfdance in Ft. Worth every year when it was in Sundance Square. Those were the best shows I have ever seen him do. I also recommend Gruene Hall. Been there several times. If you eat at the Gristmill don't plan on being hungry for a while afterward...

Lived in South East Texas for a few years. This guy really brings me back there. I wish I could have seen him live while I was there! I love Texas Music!
love me some charlie robison seen him at the wormy dog saloon in okc hell of show!!!!!!!1
Gruene Hall! I think that is one place that everybody should be obliged to play at least once in their life. Just to look at the pictures that have been taken there is a who's who of country music that is barely beaten by Nashville! If anyone is going down to watch a show there, get there early enough to go and eat at The Gristmill just about a block away, they got just bout everything that a Texan loves to eat! Hell, yaeh!
Saw him in Gruene Hall on his last show before he was to have his first Child. He played all night every song he knew. Will always be one of my favorites. Hell yes

Texas music at it's finest. Not only is Charlie one of the greatest song writers that has come from Texas, but his shows make you feel as if you were right there with him during the experiences that he wrote about.
On "Wild Man from Bornea" Robison sounds a lot like Jerry Jeff Walker.
