Tomás Luis de Victoria

1548 - August 20, 1611
born in Avila, Spain, composed during the Renaissance period
Tomás Luis de Victoria (1548-1611) was the most significant composer of Spanish music in the 16th century. After studying in Rome, presumably under Palestrina, Victoria became a choirmaster and priest, serving the church until his return to Spain in 1585. He then entered the court of Holy Roman Empress Maria of Spain and served her and her daughter as teacher, choirmaster, and organist to the end of his life. The purity of Victoria's music reflects ideas of the Roman Catholic counter-reformation, as embodied in Palestrina's music. Victoria's polychoral writing and expressive text setting set the stage for developments in the Baroque era. ~ Blair Sanderson, Rovi

No, you are not. I listened to this type of music at fourteen as well. Trust...ther e are others of your age that listen to the glorious music of the European Renaissance and Baroque. I hope you never lose your attraction to it; it's just about the most beautiful music ever created.

Heavenly!
I agree that Victoria is one of the greatest of the greats but how to choose between the likes of Victoria, Byrd, Tallis, Lassus, Phillip, De la Prez, Palestrina, etc.? What a glorious age of music!
This is outstanding.
