Club 69

New York house producer/DJ/labelhead Peter Rauhofer had a taste of crossover success in the mid-'90s as Club 69, a sexploitative electronica moniker he designed for himself and his diverse roster of collaborators. Rauhofer took main production credits on albums like Adults Only (1995) and Style (1997), though it's worth noting that he worked with a number of co-producers like Eric Kupper and vocalists like Kim Cooper. Nonetheless, Rauhofer garnered most of the attention for his salacious house-inflected electronica albums. The albums themselves aren't particularly noteworthy, being, like many albums of the mid- to late-'90s electronica boom, desperate attempts to cater dance music to the curious masses of the time. Each album would typically feature one or two quality songs, "Let Me Be Your Underwear," "Alright," and "Muscles" being some of the more well-known hits. As the albums' packaging may lead you to presume, Rauhofer heavily targeted the homosexual male community and used his success as Club 69 to launch Star 69 Records and his own New York-centric DJing career. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi

I think Jason Birchmeier's discussion of Club 69 is pathethic. I think it should be rewritten by someone who actually understands house music and gay culture and Club 69's important place in both these cultural worlds.
Targeting a particular audience (perhaps a Gay audience) is just business sense, but I'm one who has always enjoyed various qualities of dance music. And though not being Gay myself, I have spun for all kinds of people when I DJ'd heavily, that when House Music were at it's pinnacle, the only people who didn't dance to it, couldn't dance at all, and many young women with discriminato r y boyfriends were left inebriated and internally unsatisfied from not enjoying a community based good time. Its p
I own both Club 69 albums as well... It would be nice to have more Club 69... and YES, the producer DID target the homosexual male community.. (as I am one myself) BULLSEYE!! We also happen to be the first, most crucial critics and leaders of night club music... to say the least!!
I own both Club 69 albums, "Adults Only" and "Style." I enjoy such songs as "Let Me Your Underwear", "Unique", "Pleasure (Nothing Better)", "My Secret Wish", "Diva", "Style", "I Look Good", "Much Better", and "Muscles"!
