Crash Kings

Formed in 2006 in Los Angeles, the Crash Kings combine the rock & roll bombast of Muse with the piano-based pop of Ben Fold’s Five. The brainchild of brothers Tony Beliveau (vocal/keyboards) and Mike Beliveau (bass), who had been playing music together all their lives, the pair wanted to see if they could capture the big sound of rock music without actually using guitars. Recruiting drummer Jason Morris, who had played with the brothers Beliveau in previous bands, the band set to work writing. Using big bass fuzz to fill out the sound, a clavinet modified with a whammy bar, and the Beliveau’s natural chemistry, the material came to the quickly. Things took off for the band after Tony had a chance meeting with producer Linda Perry (formerly of 4 Non Blondes). After seeing the band play, she signed them to her label, Custard Records, and set the band up to record an album with Oasis producer Dave Sardy. In 2009, the band released their debut album, Crash Kings, on Custard Records. ~ Gregory Heaney, Rovi

@Nici, I also thought this was Cold War Kids at first. I've never heard Crash Kings before (listening to the song Mountain Man), but I like their sound!
Totally thought this was Cold War Kids for a hot minute... awwwkwaaarrr d . . .
I agree, I heard You Got Me and could have sworn it was CWK.
I rather think that an artist they fit more with is Cold War Kids over Cage and White Stripes...
Eh nothing like Muse or Ben Folds Five in any way. Saw them live they opened for Chris Cornell in L.A. very unique sound. Really energetic live and fun to see on stage.
Saw these guys open for STP and did f**king awesome I think they should of got a way better applause then what they got very unique band and great sound hope to see them live again soon
dark of daylight is on pandora
when will their new album be on pandora?
I dunno who listens to this band and hears mid-career Train. color me confused. I dig this band. lots.
dont read this because it actually works. You will get kissed on the nearest possible friday by the love of your life. tommorrow will be the best day of your life. however if you do not post this comment to at least 3 songs you will die in 2 days. now youve started reading this so dont stop. this is so scary put this on at least 5 songs in at least 143 minutes when if done press f6 and your lovers name will appear on the screen in big letters this is scary cuz it actually works

I think this is one of those bands that you want to get more recognized, but at the same time you want to keep them to yourself.
1$ tickets in VT, was a great show, and I even got a signed CD :3
I saw these guys in Vegas for $10 bucks. The show was awesome. 4 guys put out of lot of sound. Not one guitar in the bunch. 2 dudes on piano, a drummer and a bass player with a bunch of toys. Go see them before you rule a verdict. Live is better than a cd anyway.

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE
So I bought their first album, and it had two great songs - Mountain Man and one other one. The rest of it was like bad imitation mid-career Train. I am a little confused by this.
Mountain Man was really cool. I like that song lol, good music from a good band.
Meh. Not the greatest, but they're pretty fresh, so you gotta give them some credit.
These guys can really rock!!!!
One of the most amazing live shows I've seen. They opened for Jet in Portland and blew us all away.
@Dillon, I don't know, but when I saw them live in Nov 2009, it was in a small club and I remember whatching Tony play that thing, and I was like, WTF is that? It creates amazing music though...
dirtleg07
Very awesome band. The mix of sounds that they produce between the three of them is great. Very good live as well.
saw them live, and it was such a full sound created by just the three. Lots of distorted bass and slamming keyboards w/ some kind of a whammy incorporated onto it. It was a great sound
I though it was a keyboard. If so, keyboards have pitch change knobs.
oddlairs
Not a piano. It's a customized clavinet. They already have strings - not too far of leap to add a whammy bar if you're trying to imitate a guitar.
Awesome band! How did he think of a piano with a freaking whammy bar?
