I have wondered for the 42 years since I first heard this song, about 'tane (like octane) or 'pane (like propane). The first is what makes most sense. Forgerty continues to love to deliver lyrics all garbley. Willie and the Poorboys was probably the peak for that, though.

The most abused song in rock history. Most people have forgotten what the original even sounds like.
he says "turnin" and "burnin" funny.
on the play list of every garage band from new york to california. could be heard at any wedding reception when there were live bands hired for the music.
CCR could be middle of the winter and when I hear this song, all I can think of is summer of "85" AAHHHHHHHHHH
