Curtis Potter

Curtis Potter was born in Cross Plains, Texas, but was raised in Abilene. He worked on KRBC-TV and the Bill Fox Show in the mid-'50s. He was also a bandleader for Hank Thompson from 1959-1971. ~ All Music Guide, Rovi

What I like about Curtis Potter is his similarity in phrasing and vocal range to Ray Price. And, yes, he and others like Vince, Jake, Darrell, Justin, George, etc. are to be applauded for keeping the true Country alive. It's too bad that Country is only called such today simply because the singers have a southern accent, wear a Texas hat. Some would call it musical evolution but, as I see it the whole feel of Country music has changed and the feeling ain't good.
I knew Curtis Potter when I was a kid growing up in Abilene. He and my Uncle Ronnie Scott were band members together and he sang with my uncle and he with him. I wish there were some of my uncle's songs available here as he passed several years ago. Curtis and Ronnie's vocal range and style were very complimentar y to each other and when I listen to Curtis I can hear Ronnie.
Todays country stations ought to all have the call letters WCRAP

tcox01 and Dwayne,

I agree. Nashville is just a sham now. They have lost their roots and are turning into another mTV and VH1. In fact, they already told the possum to pack up and go home. Thank you Jesus for Jake Hooker, Bobby Flores, Amber Digby, Justin Trevino, Curtis Potter, Miss Leslie, and all the other true country stars who play COUNTRY music.

wow
Potter is GREAT
Yazoo, Curtis Potter isn't "new". He's been around for years, I think he may just now be getting some attention that he deserved years ago. A true country gentleman, right alongside Darrell McCall, Justin Trevino and Jake Hooker. Thanks to TruCountry for making this available to us.

Since I started listening to satellite radio (Willie's Place)and watching TruCountry on TV, I have gotten hooked on Curtis Potter, Tony Booth, Darrell McCall, Justin Trevino, and Jake Hooker. I love Texas country music. It sure beats a lot of "rock" music coming out of Nashville these days.
