David Berkeley

Singer/songwriter David Berkeley channels the earthy spirit of Donovan, Nick Drake, and Elliott Smith with his fusion of finger-plucked guitar ballads and tastefully arranged pop/rock. After setting up shop in Brooklyn, Berkeley made his proper debut in 2002 with The Confluence, followed by a string of releases that highlighted his tenor vocals and nuanced, autumnal songwriting. Here's one of the best singers you probably haven't heard of. Listen to his voice; then pay attention to the lyrics.
A cool guy who makes great music. If you get the chance, hang out with him and talk about deep things.
I saw David live a couple years ago, opening for Guster, I believe. Probably the best show of an artist I hadn't heard of previously. His music is moving and poignant. Check him out if you like Sufjan Stevens and Iron & Wine.
