I've never listened to Nirvana and I'm not going to start now.

Wow, so superior to Nirvana.

Cover this Cover that. All that I can say as an original Bowie fan is that this doesn't sound like the original version. I don't ever remember Bowie's voice being that raspy.
@ Teodor_Trapkov: U do realize Cobain would be turning over in his grave hearing you say that. I respect Nirvana, but Bowie is freaking Bowie. He is beyond legendary and has one of the best voices in rock. Although I respect that everyone has their own opinion, this is one opinion that should be kept to themselves lol
david bowie is so weird...i love this song! i gazed a gazely stare??? Wha? Coming from anywhere else, that just sounds stupid. i like the original. dude sounds like he's on venus.
teodor_trapkov
both versions are amazing but I like Kurt's version better. his voice brings more to the song.
98% of the time I agree that dschmidt15 is correct with what he is stating. The only time that doesn't work is with any and all Beatles songs where all of the originls are better than any of the covers ever could be,and any one who doesn't agree with that is seriously derainged in the brain. Now while the Nirvana cover of this song was a good one the original Bowie version is better people! So I guess what I said for the Beatles also pertains to Bowie, and in my less than humble opinion, holds tru
Let me clear this up for everyone. People just tend to like the first version of a song that they hear, whether that particular version is the original or a cover. So, people that heard the Bowie version years before the Nirvana version are going to like the Bowie version better. Those that had never heard the original and were only introduced to the song by a cover will like the cover better. This is true of every song ever recorded. Thanks.
Come on...all of you suck. Ground control to major Tom.

Heard this and thought 'What a crappy remake of the Nirvana song'. Still crappy (like Bowie but the music is bad in this), but I guess Nirvana actually did the remake.
This is one of the more amazing songs Bowie ever made. It's truly deranged and amazing. And I actually did hear the actual Dave Bowie version before I heard the Nirvana version (which is also very good).

I remember hearing the Nirvana version, not realizing it was a cover, and thinking it was one of the best songs from Kurt Cobain. Then I learned it was a David Bowie song, so it wasn't surprising that I had been impressed by the songwriting. Bowie was a great innovator whose songs still sound fresh today, and who inspired much music that came after.

Amazing how many people take Bowie's music and make hits with it. This version is the one I heard 30 odd years ago and it always struck me with the nasty lead guitar and the Spanish style percussion; great stuff.

I like both Bowie's and Nirvana's version of the song, but overall I prefer the original. I just wish that Bowie's got as much radio play as Nirvana's... I hardly ever hear it and it's a shame.

@teach_43: I didn't know there was a cover of the song until I saw this page. I don't believe in liking a particular song because of who did it- I think it's musically limiting. I like Bowie's version because I think it's the better version, not because Bowie's the one who did it.
teach_43
I wonder how many of you that claim you like the Nirvana cover actually heard the original Bowie first. I think its a matter of which artist you are a bigger fan of, not who sings the song that matters.
I think this is one of the few cases where I like both the original and the prominent cover equally--Bowie's for the harmony at the end of his version, and Nirvana's for the stripped-down simplicity.
I agree with S-W - Nirvana's is a clearly superior cover
twilight_angel1933
I'll believe it when I hear it. It's hard to beat a Bowie original; even if he doesn't have the best voice, he has a certain charisma that not many artists possess.
