This is definitely not my favorite version. I love David Cook and all, but Phantom of the Opera is a tragic lovestory, not just an opera. This needs the Phantom to sing it.
Love Phantom in almost every form!! I can't believe he sings this.

Beautiful, and comforting of the way things were when I was first met my husband, always there, always loving, always kind, and after 54 years, he is the same, WONDERFUL, but this brings memories of how my life started that many years ago. I am grateful for this station and this music. Thank you so much.
I absolutely love this song. It's my favorite from the musical. His voice is ok; he doesn't completely slaughter it or anything...however, I can see what people are saying about the lack of emotion. Perhaps he didn't have an inspiration in mind when he sang it, perhaps he didn't know the storyline...idk, but it could have been much better.
When he got to the part that goes "Let your soul take you where you long to be" I got major goose bumps. I thought he did very well. But that's my opinion.
haha i like these commets i liked thisd song to but i have to agree with theese to people

@Nyves - I completely agree with you. There is no emotion in this version. Although I think the vocals could be way better. I really don't like Cook's version of this song. I think he should just stay away from this side of music.

Man, am I the only one who hears the extreme lack of emotion in this cover? I mean, the vocals aren't terrible, but Cook is seriously lacking the emotions need to really make this song come alive. This songs usually moves me, but this is almost painful to listen to.

the lyrics are actually, "softly, gently, night unfurls its splendor". Just saying. Not to be a jerk:)
wow - I never heard this version of this classic ; I like it ! Allot of feeling - I'm used to Crawford's version, but this is very good. The song and play are timeless classics - I was lucky to get 8th row for it. I loved it !
i definately agree with brauch 95 and amandar.harris d.cook does any song he does extremely well. at first i thought Archuleta was going to win, but when Cook did "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith, i changed my mind and thought Cook would win.

Could be better.... Too much "trying to sound great" when it requires more felling and emotion for such a compassionate song.
