One of the greatest lead singers the Motown stable ever had, David Ruffin became one of the artistic cornerstones of the Temptations after his lead vocal on "My Girl" (1965) paved the way for such majestic follow-ups as "Since I Lost My Baby" (1965), "Beauty Is Only Skin Deep" (1966), "All I Need" (1967), and "I Wish It Would Rain" (1968). Unfortunately, ever-mounting internal pressures within the group, coupled with Ruffin's swelling ego, led to his dismissal from the group in late 1968. His solo career got off to a promising start with the powerful ballad "My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me)," which cracked the pop and soul Top Ten in early 1969. His last hit to reach the Top Ten was the Van McCoy-produced dance ballad "Walk Away From Love," from 1976. After leaving Motown in 1977, Ruffin recorded for Warner Brothers and later for RCA accompanied by Eddie Kendricks. Unfortunately, Ruffin's career, marred by years of substance abuse and artistic indifference, culminated in his death from a drug overdose in 1991. ~ John Lowe, Rovi

Grew up on his music... One of my favorite artists even now. RIP David... So sad, that you had to leave us, thanks for leaving us with a wonderful music legacy... TIMELESS
Walk Away From Love. The last time we seen David Ruffin was in Santa Barbara at Fess Parker's. My ex was doing sets of music there when David Ruffin approached him with an music deal offer. Whatever happened to David Ruffin? He should do more music himself. This guy made my ex an offer to promote my ex's music. My ex refused His reasoning. He was doing Meth at the time. Crazy. This guy makes good music too.

I never get tired of listening to the late GREAT DAVID RUFFIN!!!!!!!!!! I loovvveee hhhiiimmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! WOW that voice sends chills up my spine every time I hear it!
David was one of the best singers of great range and talent. He was unable to handle his sucess; like many others. Drugs took him and ate him up. So many other greats lost the battle with drugs, which comes with being a star.

David Ruffin is, in opinion, the BEST. I am old school and he is the most soulful singer I have ever heard.
There's something PHENOMINAL about the LEAST of us as well as MANY things that are REPULSIVE about the BEST of us. We ALL are sad sacks trying to get to eternal peace. But the gifts of the WORTHWHILE in life are what you appreciate the most!!! WHO I AM, Today is what matters. Not excusing anything!!!
This is by far my BIGGEST vocal influence. There is nobody greater than the ENIGMATIC MR. DAVID RUFFIN His solo work is phenonominal. The songs he covered with his brother Jimmy are exceptionally great as well. Pure soul. From raw and gritty to a sweet falsetto was his range and is exemplified in ALL of his recordings. More of his music need to reach the masses. I am a true RUFFUNITE!!!!!
Being a child of the 60's I was raised in a neighborhood with both black and white music influence, and believe me the Temptations was the best motown group without any questions. I loved the NBC mini-series they made and I cry every time I have watched it. Talented would not come close to describe the Temptations, they were magical. Other girls my race and age were into CCR, Beatles, not me, give me the Temps, I knew greatness when I heard David Ruffin singing lead on any song they had out. I h
This brother was without a doubt ahead of his time. I grew up listening to his music as well as others but I will always remember him as the lead singer for the Temptations.
OMGoodness!! David Ruffin was awesome. I cant stop listening to his music and he was indeed sexy as hell!! His voice was so powerful and mesmerizing. My mother always tell me he reminds her of my dad, no wonder he is my dad...lol!! He is gone way before his time and he is truly missed.
@ghettohummnbird901, I AGREE WHOLEHEARTLY with you! It never ceases to amaze me how David has been demonized but other artists who used/abused drugs stole music, style etc. like Elvis Presley are praised and worshipd. James Brown was not only a womanized but phyically abusive to Tammie Terrell however they all blame David! Then they are those who were known as womanizers and raptists (Jackie Wilson (read Pattie LaBelle's bio and Sam Cooke (didn't pay for the prostitute and was killed by the mada
I want to do a tribute album in his name to honor his talent as an artist. He is one of my favorite. And its sad that society can seem to find ways to scandalize his name yet they don't give the true credit he deserves. IJS!!!!!!
