Deva Premal

German born vocalist and classically trained musician Deva Premal was best known for her work in the field of new age music, specifically her unique brand of chanted Hindu mantras over contemporary musical stylings provided by life partner and collaborator Miten -- himself an established musician, having been part of the blues-rock scene in England in the 1970s. Her first album, The Essence, was released in 1998, and was followed by Love Is Space in 2000. In 2008, Premal and Miten released their latest work, a compilation of their earlier work entitled Into Silence. I saw her at the Palace, too. Incredible to hear the music and feel such graceful and playful energy. Curious as to why the bio, above, refers to her in the past tense of 'was' since she, Miten and Manose are about as alive as one can become.
Our family sleeps to Dakshina every night. She's wonderful LIVE, too! Just saw her (and the guys) at the Palace of fine Arts in San Francisco. what an amazing experience!

In Homage to Krishna, I heard a flavor of K.D.Lange in her blissful voice. Both have the voice that no matter the words-the sound is pure
joy.
I thought the same thing about the "was"! That's why I'm pouring over this page. Her voice and music are heavenly but glad she's still making music on Earth!
