A lovestruck Romeo sings the streets of serenade Laying everybody low with a love song that he made Finds a convenient streetlight steps out of the shade Says something like you and me babe how about it?

One of my favorites! For those who thought it sounded like Dylan, I thought so too when I first heard it. Turns out MK played guitar for Dylan so probably was influenced in terms of lyrics writing, and their voices are pretty similar.
My favorite song in the world!!! I actually got to see Mark Knopfler a few years back at Ruth Eckerd Hall...Magnificant!!!!

Cliff Eberhardt's cover was the first version of this song I ever heard. He does a beautiful job with it - check it out. Love this one too, especially the guitar.
I notice that the songs I like most are the ones from my late teens and early 20's; my formative growing up period. Funny how nobody writes songs like that anymore.
GODDD I LOVE THIS SONG...not so simple as it sounds...and that guitar? MK plays the most EROTIC guitar.
Oh Romeo, yeah, you know I used to have a scene with him
This song really touches my heart. When my husband and I first met it wasn't our time (our time was wrong). Love won in the end. One of my favorite memories is dancing to this song at the Mark Knopfler concert under the stars. Such a beautiful song and memory.
RE: ROMEO AND JULIET / DIRE STRAITS Hope that Dire Straits' live CD, "On the Night" will be added to the Pandora site. The studio version can not in any fairness be compared to the song as captured on the live album. The performances of Knopfler, the band, and the importance of the fans to the recording are remarkable. Everyone's inside the song.
classic song get up there geordie boy.mark knopfler fought years ago to bring the price of cd's down from £15 to round about £5 coz those poxy germaNS WAS MAKING THEM for a measely 99 pence
Never listened to them before now. Pretty cool… kinda reminds me of Dylan's work during this period in subtle ways… maybe it's the voice… I don't know.

Making Movies is one of those great albums that has so many great songs. Romeo and Juliet and Skateaway are two of the best that Dire Straits put out. Just fun to listen to the whole thing.
