The story of how Doc helped Old Crow Medicine Show get started is a cool one.. Story goes the boys were playing on King St in Boone outside of Boone Drug.. Doc's daughter walks up and says hey my dad plays guitar, can I bring him over to listen and play a song?.. they say sure and up walks the legendary Doc.. they were invited to Merlefest that year! What a guy!
I first heard Doc Watson on the Air when I was working at WMST in Mt Sterling, Ky. My friend Judge J.C. Fogle invited me to his home to hear a great flat-picker. Jack had gotten a copy of The Essential Doc Watson. I was blown away by The Ballad of Omie Wise. That was in 1969, I bought the album the next day and all the Doc Watson I could find after that. My son was born in 72' and I gave him healthy doses of Doc Watson while he grew up. He gets us tickets to the concerts. Ron Cole.
Bob Moloney, In the early 80's my children and I went as a family to Nahville, Indiana. We walked over half a mile into a clearing and Doc and Merle put on a fabulous show. We've been admirers ever since. .
They have MerleFest here in N. Wilkesboro every April. Been going the last 15yrs. Man what a show, AweSome

When I heard Doc's and Richard's rendition of 'If I Was A Carpenter' I went out and bought the CD. I sure miss Doc's son and Richards father, Merle Watson. Imagine Merle on this LP, It surely would be " Third Generation Blues". I'm sure Merle was there in spirit. Long Live The Maestro, Doc Watson!
