Dragonlord

Guitarist Eric Peterson was a founding member of '80s thrashers Testament, and remained with the group as it continued recording through the '90s. However, he also became curious about the extreme black metal sounds coming from Europe and, especially, Norway; so, during the late '90s, he began working on material in that vein with keyboardist Lyle Livingston and Testament bassist Steve DiGiorgio, who had previously honed his chops on the Florida death metal scene with top outfits like Death. Former Sadus drummer Jon Allen joined the project, and new Testament touring guitarist Steve Smyth was also recruited, while Peterson made his first forays into singing lead. The result was Dragonlord, a band that combined Peterson's heavy thrash riffery with the ornate, gothic feel of modern black metal bands like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth, plus nods to black metal originators like Venom and Mercyful Fate. Dragonlord was also a band that remained a side project for Peterson, not a primary concern ahead of his continued work with Testament. The debut Dragonlord album, Rapture, was released in summer 2001 by Spitfire, the same label that carried Testament. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi

Why complicate its Testament with a Sympho Goth Black Metal disguised!!!

Now you've started reading this so don't stop. This is so scary put it on at least 5 songs in at least 143 minutes when if done press f6 and your lovers name will appear on your screen in big letters this is scary cuz it actually works.

Melodic Death Metal? I always thought they were Blackened Thrash Metal. Correct me if I am wrong...
Anyways, props to Dragonlord and Testament, two great bands.

Great tune. This would be called a melodic death metal, for all the retards out there who don't know there metals.

Great music - absolutely love this !!! most BM vocals are a bit too harsh - Eric's voice is 'just right' - If thrash isn't heavy enough, but BM is toooo harsh, then this is perfect. Love the keyboards - feels like old Merciful Fate...Love it, Love it , Love it!!!!!!!!

just the look of their albums makes them look like a wanna-be DM/BM band, but their non-harsh vocals declare them otherwise in my opinion. Great band none-the-les s .

That's cool Willow, but we don't care.

Onto a more savory subject, I recently listened to one of their albums and found it quite enjoyable. This is some of the best Thrash out there.

It's like, evil-soundin g , atmospheric thrash metal. It's essentially just thrash metal with a strong nod towards black metal. I haven't thumbed it down because I enjoy listening to it, but there's FAR better out there.

I redact what I said about DragonLord. They are a good band, but they are not the unholy greatness that is black metal. They have more of a thrash sound. Yeah they have keyboards, but keyboards do not a black metal band make.

@Plague of Unicorns: Point, they are more thrash than black metal, and some of their stuff is bordering on post-metal.
Report as inappropriate
This is like thrash thinly disguised as black metal.
