Evile

Huddersfield, England's Evile are one of many new millennium bands attempting to revitalize the art of thrash metal without straying too far from its original early-'80s template. Formed in 2004, the quartet is comprised of siblings Matt (vocals, rhythm guitar) and Ol Drake (lead guitar), Mike Alexander (bass), and Ben Carter (drums), and recorded a self-produced EP entitled All Hallows Eve that same year. Several demos followed, and after being voted the U.K.'s best unsigned act by readers of Terrorizer magazine, Evile were quickly snapped up by Earache Records, releasing their debut long-player, Enter the Grave, in the fall of 2007. They followed this by supporting the legendary Megadeath on their European leg of their tour in 2008. The band went from strength to strength during this year, with their track "Thrasher" being included on the video game Rock Band, they were about to support Satyricon on their European tour until guitarist Ol Drake collapsed and fractured his jaw. The band had to cancel further live commitments. The band released their second album Infected Nations in September 2009 but tragedy struck when bassist Mike Alexander sadly passed away. The cause of death was declared as a pulmonary embolism. The band held two memorial nights for Alexander in Leeds and London. The band auditioned for replacements towards the end of the year and it was announced that former Rise to Addiction member Joel Graham was the band's new bassist. In 2011, their third album was Five Serpent's Teeth was released and was the first without Alexander. Receiving critical acclaim, the band announced a European tour. After various promotional singles and appearances, Evile returned to the album charts in 2013 with their fourth album Skulll., Rovi

Not sure why these guys showed up on my Envy station, but they sound pretty good anyway.

Meh. Okay, but I'm. Death metal dude/ megadether, and these guys are okay. Anyone could say they're a rip off a band from the 80's, but all thrash sounds like that. Can't too the big four

Didn't Ol drake leave the band a while back?

Evile is a great band name. Wish I had thought of it. Oh, yeah, and they kind of kick a**. What Metallica would have been if they had decided to not suck for the last 25 years.

@Angel of Anarchy: hmmmmm.... tough choice. I'd say it's got to be either Evile or Warbringer. Also, check out Godslave's debut, 'Into the Black' for more awesome new thrash.

These guys are my favorite thrash band ever! Ol Drake is a musical genius and Matt Drake has the most intense form of singing I have ever heard. Its not that annoying gutteral stuff and its not emo screams, its just amazing. RIP Mike Alexander... we'll miss you and your bass playing.

Wow! Me like a lot...But I do not hear Slayer, and am really glad about that - Slayer has enough children at this point (grand kids even)! Singer reminds me a little of Gus Chambers from Grip Inc.

There really good but it's not fair to compare them Slayer, they tons of experience and huge fanbase under there belt. Evile could be better than Slayer Eventually. But so far i am liking Infected Nations better than Hell Awaits.

Great thrash band. New and old keep the true spirit of thrash alive! I LOVE IT!

Also, they are definitely not better than Slayer. They are great, though. Once they get a few years under their belt and learn more musical principles, they have potential to become a huge force of thrash nature like Slayer, though. They sound a tad more like Megadeth than Slayer IMO.

Finally! Thrash is coming back! It's good to see some new REAL metal bands emerging.

Just when I thought there would never be any good NEW metal, Evile comes on the scene to prove me wrong, in a good way of course.

You know I thought at first they sounded too much like Slayer as well, but give em a few listens and Im sure you'll see that they have a lot of originality as well. Besides Slayer cant live forever even with the Devil's help

not like slayer at all. Matt's voice maybe is similar in tonal qualities naturally, i.e. by the genetic gift of his metal a** vocal cords, but lyrically they're way more saxon or iron maiden. Nothing is terribly offensive, not much joking about the devil, just great songs about real topics, a la old metallica, saxon, anthrax. Truthfully though... this was only their debut record and they're already up with the best work of the classics, what's next?

First time i ever heard of this band was thanks to Rock Band lol...sadly im really good at the fake guitar and i was looking for difficult rated songs on the xbox live marketplace. . a n d i spotted the song Thrasher..wi t h the highest difficulty ranking available..w o w was i impressed! loved em since! you guys rock

So a band can't play thrash with dark imagery w/o being called a 'replica of slayer'? now there is fair judgement. Only one band of each type of music please - we can't handle any more. Wake up guys, this bank f**king rocks, and how far into their career are they? Oh, hardly at all. Soon enough they'll have you lot in their following too.

btw - Derrick, I can't decide if you're sarcastic or just plain nonsensical, I hope it's the former.

This band is just like Slayer! They play guitars, and resolve to do it a brisk tempo. There is a drummer and bassist too! So unoriginal of them! The singer has lyrics and he sounds angry to boot. Stay away from this Slayer clone and their rip off act of playing music.
Report as inappropriate
Mediocre. They don't even come close to Slayer.
Report as inappropriate
Only about 10x better.

This band is just a mediocre replica of Slayer
