Extol first got together in early 1994 with the intentions of starting a death metal band that showed more of a progressive side; rather than atypical run of the mill group of burnout's who focused more on their image. Adding to their influences of classical music, jazz, goth and acts such as Iron Maiden, Man-o-War, Napalm Death and Morbid Angel, Peter Espevoll (vocal), Christer Espevoll (guitar), Eystein Holm (bass), David Husvik (drums) and Ole Borud (guitar), had the chance to play all throughout their native Norway before releasing their full length debut Burial in 1998. An EP, Mesmerized, followed a year later, and in 2000 Extol returned with Undeceived featuring new members Tor Magne S. Glidje on guitar and John Robert Mjaland on bass. ~ Mike DaRonco, Rovi
it may not be prog metal, but OLD Mortification is the best christian metal band ever. In Fact, Scroll of the megilloth may be one of the best Death Metal albums EVER!

I'd hate to be the narrow-minded jerk, but Extol blows any of these other metal bands out of the water. Narnia is the only one that has somewhat come close in ability(that I've known). Does anyone know any other Christian prog metal band that matches them in musical talent... or at least come close?

Pandora people get undeceived on here for crying out loud! come on!
The entire EXTOL collection would be nice on here. From tuning in D on Burial and eventually tuning to B on the latter albums, you can hear the difference. These guys are true masters of their craft.
its cool they have someone that sounds just a little bite like crimson thorn on hear.

Extol has to be one of the greatest bands that could be together still but isn't. The heights they reached on The Blueprint Dives makes you wonder how they would have been. Still, we have Lengsel and Mantric and other projects by former members. RIP EXTOL
