They've dubbed themselves "hi-tek soul," but Fat Freddy's Drop -- featuring producer and leader Fitchie, vocalist Joe Dukie, saxophonist Warren Maxwell, trumpeter Toby Laing, trombonist Joe Lindsay, guitarist Tehimana Kerr, and keyboardist Iain Gordon -- could just as easily be considered a modern reggae band that incorporates soul and dub. Prior to releasing their first album, 2005's Based on a True Story, they were already well-known in their native New Zealand; the album shipped gold and became the first independent release to reach number one on the country's chart. By the end of the year, the band had left an impression in several other countries, including England, where listeners of Gilles Peterson's BBC Worldwide program voted it as the Album of the Year. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
Just realized Ive been listening to these guys since I was at least 12 years old. Spence Jah jammed it all night on the rythem of the islands radio. I got a good memory :) love music.
These vibes make my soal melt, I can really feel their emotion, and love for music. Their dubs keep stimulating sounds and are never too slow for me. The vocalist.... well I just dream of that whispy voice right next to my ear. LOVE the concious lyrics and insturmental skill, they make real music. Come back to MAUI we love you! One love.
An incredible band. Their ability to combine jazz, dub, reggae, soul, jam and pacifica is inspiring. After seeing them a number of times live at home in New Zealand I am dying to have them come to the states I would travel just about any distance as their live shows are amazing!
They are the best band ever. I can't stop listening to them all day long. Musically they're excellent incorporating jazz, dub, reggae, hip-hop, soul and jamming beats all the way. I hope you come more often to the States specially the Miami area and also you have the best music to make love to, very sexy sounds and the ladies love it, Big Ups brothas.

These guys are epic! I can't stop listening to them - I only wish they had 10 more albums! Joe Dukie has the most velvety soulful voice I have heard since Stevie Wonder. Come and bless us up in the U.S. a little more often!! I will tell all my friends to come see you!
