Toronto-based violinist/singer/songwriter Owen Pallett has been a member of the groups Les Mouches and Picastro, as well as a touring member of the Hidden Cameras and Arcade Fire--he composed strings for the latter's Neon Bible album. Final Fantasy, essentially a one-man solo project with occasional help from drummer/engineer Leon Taheny, released its first full recording, Has a Good Home, in 2005 on the small Toronto-based cooperative label Club Blocks. It was followed in 2006 by He Poos Clouds on the Tomlab label, which went on to receive the inaugural Polaris Music Prize in Palletts native Canada. In 2008 Pallett announced that the third Final Fantasy album, Heartland, would be the last under the FF name, and that all subsequent records would bear the mark of one Owen Pallett. Heartland, another concept album, this time dealing with what Pallett describes as "the beginning, middle and end of a relationship. But its sung from the point of view of the object of my affection", was released in January 2009. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
Looks like his name even fooled Pandora staff! As of now, they have the album Potion2: Relaxin' With Final Fantasy incorrectly associated to Owen Pallett. He had nothing to do with that album.
About 6 month's ago I typed Final Fantasy, thinking I would hear songs from the franchise. Instead it came up with this, I listen to this station a while and found a new type of musical genre. Needless to say him an Takenobu are some of my favorite solo artist. I guess the moral of thus story is give it a chance you'll never know what you might come to enjoy.

Arvis Jaggamar Something about this guy gets on my nerves, big time.
-Arvis Seconded. I also accidentally found this guy.. and he ruined my station. Gonna go make a new one.
Actually typed in "final fantasy" so I can hear tracks from the video game series and this popped up, was a bit stand-off'ish but actually is pretty good music. *thumbs up :)
I also got roped in because of his name, but he's not bad. His radio station started playing Takenobu's stuff, which is amazing, and that alone made it worth it for me. Owen's lyrics are deep and darker than the light and airy tone of his music, it's an odd mismatch that has a strange appeal.
said artist should be disregarded and his talent is voided. Because that's what I said.

Because an artist used the word poo in an album and a song, and based his stage name after one of his favorite video games, said artist should be disregarded and his talent is voided.
"Greatest modern composer of the new generation. period."
Don't you think that's a bit of an overstatement? I mean... he worked the word "poo" into the name of one of his albums. And he just stole the name of a famous video game series for his own name.
I don't know, I just can't take his music seriously considering he obviously doesn't.
And yet his songs are so heavy-handed... It just comes off as obnoxious.

My first listen just now. Love it. Unique, gentle melody, interesting spare arrangement, yet full effect as all parts come together, lovely string support, doesnt feel like its repetitive due to the thoughtful use of arrangement changes
Really? ill have to look into that Schmuckyou5. In the meantime, ill see if i like this guy as i am also here lookin for game music...

Now see, I have the opposite problem-finding this artist anywhere, specifically torrents is pretty difficult because of the game and Uematsu album. But never fear nerd brethren-"He Poos Clouds" is supposedly about the 8 schools of magic in DnD! So give it a shot, it's realllly goooood.
they really have to change the name... yet another person misguided

Heh... maybe this is how people usually come across this artist, by thinking that he's the awesome video game and anime soundtrack. Because, it appears I am yet another hapless Final Fantasy fan. ^^
Owen Pallet is one of the gems I have discovered on my journey through life. He is my Vivaldi! There are only a few men that can make me cry in this world, and Owen is one of them. It's too bad that some will not give Owen a chance.
Well...I thought this was the video game soundtrack... -sighs-

I thought this was FF too, but I started listening to it all, and its GREAT. The song "Many lives" there's a Bach g minor sonata section at the very end that's just beautiful.

All you fanboys stop looking for rehashes of songs you've heard a million times and try something new this time.
All you silly geese looking for the FF soundtrack can join in the lovin's.
