Finch

California-based emo rockers Finch, originally called Numb, include vocalist Nate Barcalow, guitarists Randy Strohmeyer and Alex Linares, bassist Derek Doherty, and drummer Alex Pappas. Strohmeyer actually had a hand in getting the band signed to Drive-Thru Records. The young guitarist contacted the label incessantly, intent on generating interest in his music. His fan mail and pestering even led to friendship of sorts with Drive-Thru owner Richard Reines. So when Strohmeyer inevitably pitched him Finch, he figured Reines was just being polite by listening. But Reines was genuinely enthusiastic about Finch and offered the band a contract. The 2001 four-song EP Falling into Place was the band's first release for Drive-Thru and sold over 6,000 copies in just its first three months of release. That set up the well-received full-length What It Is to Burn, which appeared the following year, produced by Mark Trombino (blink-182, Midtown). Finch immediately hit the road with RX Bandits and spent that summer on the Warped Tour. Tempers flared in August 2004 when Finch got into an on-stage fracas with alt-metal act Disturbed, allegedly over comments Strohmeyer had made about the band's music and its singer, David Draiman. But the flap soon faded, and Finch concentrated on work for their sophomore full-length and Geffen debut. With new drummer Mark Allen on board, Say Hello to Sunshine dropped in summer 2005, featuring a considerably heavier and slightly experimental sound. The album failed to resonate with much of their fan base, even though the band toured behind it through the end of the year with such acts as Head Automatica, HiM, and Skindred. By February 2006, Finch had gone on an "indefinite break." Some members of the band went on to join the Sound of Animals Fighting, along with members of RX Bandits, the Autumns, and Circa Survive. ~ Linda Seida, Rovi

This is not them
Should have kept it going. So much talent.
Sometimes great bands with amazing talent, an ear for sound, and awesome riffs just dont last.....Is it better to remember Finch for that? We'll probably never know, so I just play there songs over, and over and Love what they DID accomplish.
fortunate enough to see them in their comback tour.. love this band.. every album start to finish
Fu@k I miss this band...liste n i n g to WiiTB time warps me back to my frosh year of college, while SHtS is just frantic aural awesomeness. I was 1,000% digging the sound of the last EP and Epilogue too...Man I wish they could've held together
FINCH!!!!!!! ! ! ! ! ! ! Let me paint a picture for you!! Its NYC summer of idk i think it was 03-04....im on the J train going into Manhattan and this uber hot white guy is eyeing me. I dismiss cause he seemed way out of my league but to my surprise he was still interested.. . w e get in and we are just looking at each other its soooo sweet. He ends up following me all the way to the next train and then I loose him...later that night Im walking back home and guess who comes around the corner...THE GUY!
"Say Hello to Sunshine" takes an ear for musical talent to understand the level of genius placed behind all facets of its existence. It is absolutely of no surprise to me that all of the "teeny boppers" and "popular" band wagoners revealed towards their true musical incompetence while reviewing such a ballad of expertise. With their newest EP, I am glad to see them continue forth with the minor keyed emphasis following the juxtapositio n of their magnificent time frames. Glad to see you guys back

finch always rocks, 10 years ago 10 years from now ...
say hello to sunshine sucked...
Always liked this band! Cool 2 hear something different!
Their 2005 album was "leaps and bounds" ahead of their 2001 demo/debut album. That just from developing their own tone, and also having access to a better sound studio - or I assume it is. Considering how far they went in just 4 years sound-wise, I bet their next album will be something truly unique and great to listen to.
i love yhu guys sooooo efffn much...^.^
What It Is To Burn is one of my alltime fav songs. I don't care for the band, I just love that f**king song!
Tasty.

Pandora definitely need to update the discography, cause the Finch EP is pretty amazing work.

I am in love with Nate's voice. both their albums are beautiful in their own way, cant wait to hear the new album

Whoa, a new album?? Awesome!! Can't wait!
I love Finch's "what it is to burn" cd... Im not to big of a fan of their "say hello to sunshine" cd.

Amazing band back in 2002.
While I love Finch and Candlebox I wouldn't consider them "similar artists". Also Finch have long since ended their hiatus. A four song self titled EP was released last week and a full album is soon to follow. Look for the EP on iTunes or at Hot Topic.
similar artist, motograter?
iglooboy55
new album coming out, Winter 08!
they are simply amazing. one of the bast emo bands right up there with armor for sleep and dashboard confessional . i haven't yet heard a song by them i don't like. they have a lot of diversity within their music too. good mix of energy and mellowness.
The song 'What it is to Burn' is what got me interested in Finch, but there's only a select few songs that are concidered as 'good'.
