Future Of Forestry

Led by multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer Eric Owyoung, Future of Forestry is a Christian indie rock band who combine a sincere, literate, spiritual message with low-key ambient music featuring acoustic and electronic elements. Named for a poem by C.S. Lewis, Future of Forestry was formed in the wake of the breakup of another group, Something Like Silas, which was formed in 2000 and featured Owyoung and his wife, Malina Owyoung. When the Owyoungs' marriage fell apart, so did Something Like Silas, and in 2006 Eric Owyoung announced he was forming a new band with a new musical direction. Initially, Future of Forestry featured the same lineup as the final edition of Something Like Silas, but as the group progressed and Owyoung explored new ideas, he became the only constant member of the band, with Owyoung recruiting different sets of musicians for each recording project and concert tour. Future of Forestry struck a deal with Credential Recordings, a Christian alternative label distributed by EMI (the same label had courted Something Like Silas), and the group released its self-titled debut EP in 2006. Their first full-length album, Twilight, appeared in 2007, but for the next several years, Owyoung and his collaborators focused on a series of EPs, the Travel series, with three volumes released between 2009 and 2010. Another EP series, Advent, devoted to Christmas-themed music, debuted in 2008, with additional installments appearing in 2010 and 2013. In 2011, the Travel series was collected on a single album, The Complete Travel Series, while the same year, the group issued another compilation, A Film and TV Collection, a limited-edition sampler of music Owyoung created for visual media. For the 2012 album Young Man Follow, Owyoung launched his own label, Sound Swan Records; he also opened a studio with the same name, where he worked on Future of Forestry projects as well as recording and mixing work for other artists. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Future of Forestry played at our church, The Rock, in San Diego, and I was so blessed and blown away to be at both appearances. Never have I experienced anyone like them. They strike a cord within me that is definitely in touch. Puts me in touch with God. And I'm amazed by their performance. Hope to see them again!!
But Pandora, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get the first 2 Travel EPs.
FoF is pretty much the best band ever.
Their Travel series is phenomenal. Practically perfect.
Seen them live once, seeing them again on the 1st of December! :DD
Best songs: Slow Your Breath Down, Closer To Me, So Close, So Far, and all of them. :3
I love your music! You are so under-rated. Keep them albums coming!
Amazing sound and great lyrics!

As a strong believer and an aspiring musician, I look up to FOF. Live long and prosper :)
This is a very creative, talented band!!!!

Future of Forestry has 2 wonderful Holiday CDs out. They should definitely be on Pandora! They play the traditional carols hard, from the heart. So much so that I felt like I was hearing some songs truly for the first time. When they play Little Drummer Boy live you HAVE to stand up. What a band!
"I'm so tired of working to be loved." Great lyric. Excellent song.

the band members are christian, but their lyrics aren't preachy. it's really more of an altenative band, so anyone can listen. all the travel cd's are cool, i want to say indie with a twist of ... something. they drop some beats on certain songs. twilight is a little different sounding than the travels, more peaceful, i like it all.
yes victoria:) they are
christian?

Don't see the Coldplay connection whatsoever. Coldplay is everywhere on Pandora.

Their song Twilight has a stricking resemblance to Fleet Foxes
If you dig Future Of Forestry & Mute Math check out Jeremy Larson's music. Jeremy jams with Mute Math on select live show (like on Tonight Show). http://www.j e r e m y l a r s o n m u s i c . c o m / incredible.

Not sure why Mute Math is getting so much mention on the FoF thread, but whoever says they are a lame U2 ripoff isn't listening very closely. I have not yet seen them in concert, but did get to see a previous incarnation, Earthsuit, twice. I was very impressed. And Mute Math is better that Earthsuit.

mute math definitely isn't a U2 ripoff. They really aren't that similar to U2. listen closely to their stuff and you will find huge originality and creativity.
Mutemath is a U2 ripoff? Pual Meaney's voice is reminiscent of Sting at times, I would not say he sounds like Bono. The guitar really is not like U2, nor are the drums, as they can sometime be all over the place.. Mutemath is one of the more original acts of our decade. Future of Forestry is definitely worth a look though I should say, since this is about them...
camclenden im not sure if you know what good music is. mute math is the COOLEST band on the face of the earth! and to say little show about mute math is a total oxymoron because every show they put on is the coolest and most innovative show ever. just go to you tube and search for darren king (the mute math drummer) and then tell me that "mute math is kinda lame guys".

thank you very much.
camclenden.. . . how dare you. I'm not a huge U2 fan but Mute Math is the awesome... They're so much more vivid, plus their drummer is freakin' amazing. And "little show"? I've been to one of their shows and they're amazing!

INTERNET ARGUMENT! :D

If you like FOF and Mutemath I suggest you try "Soular" Much more melodic and Harder... Good stuff!

Mutemath is kinda lame guys... they're too much of a U2 rip off. I got their CD for free at some little show they did over a year ago, I wasn't really that impressed with it. FOF is good though, nice use of weird effects.

This band is truly going to go far with their music. Their music is very worshipful, but in a different style than most worship music. Their previous releases are good too, though only two of the members are from their previous band: Something Like Silas. They have changed a lot in their style, but check out SLS, too. "All I Want" is probably my favorite song on the album.
Truly an amazing rock 'n' roll show is Mute Math. Saw them in Memphis just the other day. I'm hearing Future of Forestry's "Sacred Place" - pretty cool with the ambiance and all. Nice "chill" music.
Def gonna add them to the library, does remind me of Mute Math, who, if you haven't seen in concert are FREAKING INCREDIBLE!
