Watcher of the skies watcher of all
His is a world alone no world is his own,

Peter didn't write these lyrics, Mike and Tony did...but maybe Pete was the one who decide to sing them so fast?
Rock for intellectual s . If the shoe fits .... Indeed.
Man... Peter Gabriel is trying REALLY hard to cram all those lyrics in.
Great song, but I will always prefer the live version from '73.

Lyrics that envisioned today's crisis, "For though your ship be sturdy,no mercy has the sea. Will you survive on the ocean of being?"

Richard, absolutely!
I have been listening to this tune for 37 years I first heard this tune on college radio in atlanta ga early 1973 - at first I thought It was YES - I had just heard (close to the edge}- I was a wee lad- but listen to enough Genesis and the similarity fades quickly- Still a brilliant tune after all these years,I know new age influences thats kind of funny, Mike oldfield had just released tubular bells at the time - all this music is just timeless. there is nothing like it on the airwaves in 2010.
One of the absolute greatest songs ever written!!! From an emotional standpoint as well as a songwriting one. The introductory theme coming back at the end after the great crescendo. The "Bolero-esqu e " rhythem pattern throughout the main body. This song still brings tears to my eyes decades after first hearing it!!! Any version!!!
awesome song
"New Age influences" -- Did we have new age music in 1971?
