Germaine Tailleferre (1892-1983) was a French composer, most often noted for being the only woman in the group Les Six. Despite the reputation she gained for supporting progressive ideas in the 1920s and '30s, Tailleferre's own compositions were somewhat less than avant-garde, staying more or less connected to the traditional melodic models of Fauré and the witty, cosmopolitan style of Ravel. While her best-known music was tonal, she began to experiment later in life with twelve tone composition. Tailleferre was prolific over her long career, and her works include operas, ballets, concertos, orchestral music, chamber music, songs, and keyboard pieces. ~ Blair Sanderson, Rovi
