Turn it up loud, close my eyes and throw my head back and sing every single note and mimic every single instrument...after all these years it still gives me chills...every...single...time.
To continue.... Absolutely hot guitar and sax solos, memorable melody burned into your soul, and a voice that is just too perfect for the whole thing. Nothing annoying about this song and everything desired. A fav.
I was interested in who did the guitar solo, since it sounded like one you could drop into a Steely Dan song. Unfortunately there are four of them credited, and I haven't heard of any of them before. I did find out that Raphael Ravenscroft (who played with Floyd, among others) was responsible for one of pop music's most recognizable sax parts though.
This song is such a great song on so many levels. The lyrics paint such a great picture for the listener. It has a great message that says keep on trying, and yes the sax is epic!
amen stonecutter 908; plus it makes me sad that i gave up the booze and the one night stands and now my life is even more empty than when i had the booze and the one night stands... po po pitiful me
I love it when this song (in its original version) comes on at the grocery store or some other public place. It's amazing how many folks you hear whistling along with the sax solos. It's like it's a basic human need, to "sing" along with something this epic, even when there aren't words. Always makes me happy.
I love the bongos in this song! Gerry Rafferty is so underated.

i don't want to buy Baker Street, I want to hear it. Is this possible? What button do I press to listen? And how do I get a song back that you said you would never play again?

An all time favorite!
As if I needed a reason to hate the Foofighters and/or Dave Grohl, they destroyed this song.
