The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald

Lyrics

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they called 'Gitche Gumee'
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy

One of my all time favorites. So Erie almost feel like your there with them especially after seeing the documentary on the wreck. Watching them bring the bell up and ringing for the crew must've helped bring closure for the families. Gordon was one of my Nana's favorites so it brings SO many feelings, like a great song should.

This can be summed up in one verse:

Oh the ship she went out on a cold winter's night
And the boat she went down and the people all died... Bummer...

I sailed the Great Lakes on a sister ship to the Fitz and rode out a few storms. This song really hits close to home.

The Great Lakes are epic as is this song, hauntingly so.
Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings...
That whole lyric about the lakes is magical.

I was in fifth grade, living in Cleveland when this happened. The lake was polluted, the air foul and the harbor full of freighters. Went to the rock hall a few years ago and now the lake and sky are clear, but the ships and jobs are gone.

I saw The Big Fitz's bell at the Shipwreck Museum in Michigan. We went there for vacation. It was really neat...
