The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they called 'Gitche Gumee'

Good song, but it's just the melody to Back Home in Derry. Except without a chorus, which kinda bugs me.

I lived on the shores of Lake Michigan for 38 years in Wisconsin. I know all the places he sings about in this song, It's familiar, sad, and brings great memories. God bless all those souls.

KRAZY !! This is the 1st song 2 play on this station, & 2 other music lovers commented on it hours ago. I am TRULY BLESSED, not just that I wasn't 1 of the lost in this song, but that I can get so lost in this song. ALWAYS loved Mr.Lightfoot ' s work, ever-more since my friendships 22 or so yrs ago in Alabama. God bless Mr.Gordie's family, & fans.

One of my all time favorites. So Erie almost feel like your there with them especially after seeing the documentary on the wreck. Watching them bring the bell up and ringing for the crew must've helped bring closure for the families. Gordon was one of my Nana's favorites so it brings SO many feelings, like a great song should.

This can be summed up in one verse:

Oh the ship she went out on a cold winter's night
And the boat she went down and the people all died... Bummer...
