Hey I followed the Dead for over 25 years and over 100 concerts. Boy do I miss Jerry...

I know next to nothing about the grateful dead apart from this song and a few others. That is saying a lot given their enormous catalogue. My favorite tune has to be "Ripple."

How did the the grateful dead get to be SO darn good?--PRACT I C E , PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!! Has got to be one of my favorite songs, along with a couple of hundred other ones too!!!

I like listening to lyrics that I haven't listend to, or thought about for a few years, and then thinking back to when the song originally came out.

To my ear, what has always stood out about this song is how simple yet effective the drumming is to the song. I read where when the Dead delivered this song to the record company, the executives all ran up and down the corridors shouting "the dead wrote a hit, the dead wrote a hit!!!". They were used to the dead producing songs that were not too radio friendly I guess. Love the dead. If you get a chance, check out what Phil Lesh has been doing keeping the music alive. Great stuff.
