Ha Ha Tonka

Indie rock band Ha Ha Tonka were formed in 2004 in Springfield, Missouri, by singer/guitarist Brian Roberts with Lucas Long (bass, vocals), Brett Anderson (keyboards, guitar, vocals), and Lennon Bone (drums, vocals). Initially, the name of the group was Amsterband. It was with this moniker that they released their debut CD, Beatchen, and began to tour extensively. In 2006, they followed with a second self-released album, Buckle in the Bible Belt. In May 2007, they signed to independent Chicago-based label Bloodshot Records and decided on a name change, calling themselves Ha Ha Tonka after a state park in the Ozark Mountains in southwestern Missouri. Bloodshot re-released Buckle in the Bible Belt on September 11, 2007, as Ha Ha Tonka were in the midst of a tour of the Midwest. Novel Sounds of the Nouveau South appeared in 2009, garnering a good deal of critical praise, and was followed by Death of a Decade, produced by Kevin McMahon and the Ryantist, in 2011. The impressive and lightly orchestrated Lessons appeared in the fall of 2013. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi

I saw them recently when they performed a concert in West Plains, MO for MSU 50th anniv. They are awesome in concert. As soon as the concert was over they mingled with the crowd. My kids went to school with the drummers brother CB. It's nice to see/hear hometown folks make it. When I bought their CD's I see that their music is released by a label that is in the neighborhood where I grew up in Chicago. Keep the great music coming. Small world....... . l s .

Love this band! They are playing here in Kansas City with Not A Planet on Thanksgiving Eve, fresh off a big European Tour. I think they are going places!

I started listening to this band about three years ago. Before they had a Pandora station. Once I saw them on Pandora I knew they were doing something GREAT! I currently live in Colorado and all three of their albums are in a jukebox at my local bar. How cool?! Shows all across the U.S. Check them out!

These Ha Ha Tonka boys have been touring and selling out shows from what I hear.... I used to go to their shows when I was in college in Springfield. . . I miss seeing them play live but I sure do enjoy listening to them and playing their music for my students while they work! Way to go guys! I knew you all would keep growing and getting bigger!
I saw them play live in Iowa City, IA. They were AMAZING...we bought all 3 of their CDs! If you ever get a chance to see them play live DO IT! You won't regret it!
Saw these guys at South By South West in Austin a few years back. I made it a point to see them play while other more popular well known bands were performing that I would have loved to have seen. No regrets...th e s e guys kicked a**. Love the new album. Keep doing what you're doing guys. You get better with each new album.
Saw them live at the Brooklyn Bowl. They are AMAZING. All great players and their songwriting is stellar. See them play live if you have the chance.

My brother is the drummer for this band, look them up on youtube. you will see where they have not faded into obscurity. very good coice of music ;)
I hope you're wrong...grea t live band, very inventive and creative CDs. One of the best out there IMO.
This is a great band that I got into back in Springfield, in the days when they called themselves Amsterband. Their blend of rock and Ozarks folk music is as fascinating as it is fun... and thus it is probably fated to remain in the depths of obscurity forever. But I'd love to be wrong about that!
