Howard Shore

Howard Shore has composed the scores for over 50 films, including The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, After Hours, Seven, and both the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies. His collaborations with David Cronenberg have resulted in scores for the films The Brood, Scanners, Videodrome, The Fly, Dead Ringers, Naked Lunch, M. Butterfly, and Crash, spanning a nearly 20-year period by the year 2001. Shore's formal education came at the Berklee School of Music in Boston. From 1969-1972 he recorded with the group Lighthouse. He was one of the original creators of Saturday Night Live and served as its musical director from 1975-1980. In 2000, Shore began work on one of the most expansive projects of his career when he signed on to produce scores for film adaptations of the Lord of the Rings series. He spent a year just working on the first film, using Tolkien's texts and drawing from eighth and ninth century music sources to try to evoke the books' magical worlds. Upon the completion of the Lords series in 2001, Shore created the scores for several Hollywood blockbusters including Panic Room (2002), The Aviator (2005), A History of Violence (2005), The Departed (2006), Doubt (2008), and Hugo (2011). In 2012 Shore, along with director Peter Jackson, returned to Middle Earth for the first of three Hobbit films. ~ Stacia Proefrock, Rovi

Amazing. Nothing better than his work
Howard Shore is easily my favorite composer.
Hobbit was OK. It should have been one movie. Too many other parts to the story like Legolas and the white orc

Don't read this because it actually works you will be kissed on the nearest possible Friday by the love of you life However you will die in 2 days now you've started reading so don't stop this is scary so post this on at least 5 songs in 143 minutes when you are done press f6 and your lovers name will appear on the screen in big letters this is scary it actually works
I have been a big fan of Tolkien's writings and these movies and the film scores are some of my favorites, however, hoping that when my own writings are published, something good will come of them and you will be liking them as well.
This song is totally epic and beautiful!!!
NO. They totally did not botch The Hobbit. It was perfectly fine. People should consider that likes change and technology changes with time. Was was produced in 2000's is much different than that produced in 2010's. Things change. Movies change. Perhaps the first was a bit kid friendly but i think it was fine. Besides most of the action in LoTR: The Fellowship of the Ring was nothing compared to the other 2 movies after. Therefore, proving my point. Time changes and so did action flicks.

This song always just makes me want to cry

I LOVE LOTR!!!!!!!! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
erkwild2000
Really appreciate his scores. Knows how to draw the feelings out. Enjoyed the Hobbit as well. Don't feel they botched it. Mixing the times that the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings were written in plus as usual, going from a book to motion picture obviously is quite different.
the first hobbit was like watching some one play a video game
People keep saying they botched the hobbit but i think they did fine, the only problem with the hobbit trilogy is its inconsistent the first one is kid friendly while the second is serious

I love all of the lotr and the hobbit songs but this one is far most my favourite song ever! I mean it tells you how depression is and what they are going through

Song really tells the depths of depression and the sorrow it brings.

Jesus Christ is your only hope to break the darkness.
AWESOME SONG
The Hobbit. : Great song. If you've never heard this, give it a listen. It's kind of almost like Mumford style. They sing in this one. It's awesome. It's beautiful.
Billy Boyd has a nice voice.
